This is a case of personal choice.  I have had ( and loved) both.

A proper trailer tent say a big Conway is a palace when it is pitched.  Proper beds off the ground, proper kitchen with built in cooker, fridge and sink, hanging wardrobes, toilet area,  built in leccy points the lot.  The down side is the cost ( about £3,000 for a new one  probably £1,000+ for a decent second hand one.) and the time they take to errect.  But if you have a family and are going to just one site say for a two week holiday, they cannot, I repeat, cannot, be betterd for comfort.  Also they will last for years, so if used regularly you will get your money back eventually.

On the other hand you will spend much less and have much more flexibility if you have a tent plus trailer.

One of the factors in the decision about a tent and trailer or a trailer tent is about storage. I have a frame tent which I can store in my loft where it keeps nice and dry and out of the way. My trailer lives outside and gets used for all sorts of things. I would love a trailer tent but because I don't have a garage it would have to live outside all year round and I am not sure that is a good idea

We went camping for the first time ever last year. Two adults, two children in a Peugeot 405 and the back seats don't fold down. The boot was jam packed and there was stuff on the back seats and on the floor at my feet and on our laps!
This semed to be OK, until we got to the park, and the car wouldn't go over the speed humps!! We had to pile out of the car to get it over, how embarassing!
