Well done!

The first pitch is always the hardest, hence it is advisable to do a trial pitch beforehand.

Glad that is over for you, and that you are happy with your new purchase.

Enjoy!

James57, glad you survived the trip and you're happy with the tent. I've got a couple of questions: One, I'm from the LA area - where did you go in Morecambe? Two: Can I request a photo? Of the packed tent and poles in the boot of your car (and what type of car is it?) so that I can make a guess how much it'll fill up the boot of mine!

I'm really surprised that you can't put on and take off the extra canopy when the tent is up. What is causing the problem?

Cheers!

Hi iains sorry not replied things havve been pretty hectic

we went to holgates bayview campsite very friendly and clean

we are off camping for the weekend tomorrow so will remember to take the camera and also some photos of packed tent in our boot, got to say its big though....

it originally came in two nearly identical sized and weight bags but now i have the canopy, bedrooms and groundsheet together in one bag and the poles tentpegs and xtension groundsheet in the bag the poles came in.

i can just manage to lift the big bag.... boy its heavy

the problem with attatching the canopy while errect i think i have now solved the zips were quite fiddley to engage when working above your head, think it just takes practice

Wow! It does look good. How much easier/faster was the setup this time? I think that the Familia is now #1 on my wishlist!

Thanks for the milk carton photo It fits in a behind the 3rd row so easily. (Previa?) I'm going to need a bigger car too!

Hope you have many happy holidays in it!

set up time was much better (forgot to time it) but would say if pushed we had the tent up in about 30 min (myself and teanage daughter) but then proberbly spent another 30 min tweeking poles and guylines to get the flysheet nice and taught.

would of proberbly pitched it with the flysheet a little looser if there had been any chance of rain as i believe it may result in slight shrinkage but please correct me if im wrong...

the poles did snag quite a lot when pushing through the flysheet sleeves due to the spring loaded locking thingies (not sure of right name so found a picture on google) sticking out quite far

so if anyone has a solution to this ?? i have thought of wrapping a little insulation tape over them but this would proberbly be quite a faff.....

we tryed cross pitching it from the middle out, which worked better than putting all the poles in then walking it out that we did last time.

next time i will proberbly try cross pitching from the front to the back...

im thinking if i put the front canopy pole in first and guy it out to keep upright i may be able to solo pich the whole tent ??

has anyone any experience of solo pitching large family polycotton tunnel tents or is this biting off more than i can chew and best not to try ??

im well happy with the Familia 6  to me its on a par with the outwell wolf lake 7 for quality. but in my eyes slightly better and a lot cheaper as we only need 6 birth and the canopy is 2m deep not the 1.3m of the wolf and for useability thats a huge difference we had a large table six chairs and full kitchen in it and wernt overly cramped, add to that we had the front flyscreen on aswell bliss

Glad you are happy with the tent, knew you would be, Alot of tent for the money huh :)

As for pitching instructions, Obelink tents rarely have them apart from a few pictures to give you a clue.

No idea why that is but there are usually pitching instructions on their Dutch website but not for this tent as yet.

Link for obelink pitching instructions.......

Hi James

Any further insight into this tent - I am currently considering it against a Wolf Lake 7 (2013), Kamp Filey 6 Classic or a Vango Shangri-la. Is it living up to expectations?

thanks Sean

Hello

I wondered if anyone had an opinion on our situation...

We bought a Obelink Familia 6 this summer. On 1st trip camping for 10 days, the groundsheet started to smell of mould after 4 days. I've never heard this happening to a brand new tent. The shop say it is dead grass, and we should have used a separate ground sheet. Have we just been unlucky? There was nothing under tent visible to the eye that was mouldy...

I really hate mould smell an it effected our summer hols!
Deciding whether to buy expensive cleaner and try to stop it smelling, or try to complain again??

thanks in advance

When you pitch next time put some plastic sheeting under tent. This can be cheap plastic dustsheet from B&Q. You can chuck it in the campsite bin when you leave site. That way your tent groundsheet stays clean. If the underside of tent still smells then leave it in garden to air. You can clean it with sponge & plain water. Don't use any soap it could damage proofing.
