If you fancy a little travel you can join some Dutch Winter campers at our Winter weekend from 18-20 January:
We have some little De Waard tents for rent. You do have to bring your own sleeping mat and bag. No cooking equipment is required as we offer a food arrangement for the entire weekend for 27,50 euro per person.
Don't know if anyone would be interested, but if you are let me know :-)

I camped with my now-ex four years ago on what was, at the time, the coldest weekend ever, and with ehu we were fine. I did my first solo winter camp just over three weeks ago on the same weekend and at the same site as MissElaineous and 9Iron - there was a very cold wind but wall to wall sunshine and blue sky each day, and with ehu my tent was lovely and cosy. Can't wait to do it all again now!

I think oil filled electric radiators do the trick! Low wattage (I have 2 x 700 rads). They get really warm, are silent and leave more wattage for other appliances than my old 2kw fan heater :-).
Anybody have any recommendations for nice winter sites in the South West with EHU??

i would love to go winter camping. i really dont mind the cold as with ehu it can be cosy and warm in the tent but i dont like the wet as its hard to get things dried off and the dampness does penetrate the tent and things feel damp - even if warm because of ehu & heating.
so if its cold and dry weather then yes id love to go winter camping.

I cancelled my trip over the New Year as it was just too wet to be enjoyable.
Don't mind the cold, however, setting up in pouring rain and spending most of the time inside the tent to escape the rain when it is cold is no fun.
Roll on Easter 2013!

I've camped though winter months regularly - in a selection of tents from a Wynnster Shrike nylon dome, a 5m bell tent and now a Vango Halo 200.
Never used any heat except a two-tier candle chandelier for the bell. Anything is doable with a good enough sleeping setup (down bag with hood is best) and a busy day so one isn't sitting about getting cold. Sleeping is better off the floor on a camp bed or if need to be on floor with a very good thermal mat (combined with a closed cell foam one) Thermal johns, tee and socks good idea. Men use a bottle to pee, women a she-wee.
Thermal hat with ear-flaps and a hot water bottle each night - job done. A spot of rum isn't a bad idea
After starting in this topic and it now being the meteorological (is that spelt right?!) spring I can report I failed in my quest to winter camp.
Am restricted to weekends due to work and there have been a couple of opportunities in December and February when the conditions/temperatures have been better than we've endured before but on both Saturdays I had tickets for gigs. We also aimed for a New Year with a difference but whilst mild it was far too wet for tent camping around our way.
We did 1 March last year no EHU and were planning on repeating again this weekend but sadly thwarted as the wife's dad has fallen ill - would have been good as it's been a fabulous day here in East Yorkshire.
Never mind, the campsites are opening again, nights are getting lighter and the season is go!
It's been a lovely day here too yoda, would have been great for camping but I had things to do this weekend. Pity it wasn't as nice last weekend, I was camping in NE Lincolnshire and it was really grey and miserable Still had a good time though.
