No offence, but I'm sure we've all come across condescending attitudes before, and the tone of the comments can't be portrayed in an email. Unfortunately, tent snobbery exists.

Fortunately though, as with most things, it is the obnoxious minority that give any pastime a bad name. I reckon it's great that Lou can see past this bad example of us campers, and see that the vast majority are decent people - hence the attempts to see all sides, and defend other campers.

Nubian, i dont base mine on ignorance, iv examined one in the flesh, and while i couldnt see anything actually wrong with it, or broken, it was cheap shoddy rubbish. Thin material, poorly stitched and taped, and flimsy poles. Not a patch on my others, and yes i know Outwell etc have had issues recently, but the overall quality is far superior. I defy anyone to have a close look at the materials used alongside an Outwell Vango etc and honestly say they are just as good.

But hey, at the end of the day, each to their own, iv camped in cheapo tents when i started out, i just wouldnt go back to them now.

If it leaks, the overall quality can take a flying leap!

Getting wet when camping 'cos your tent leaks is rubbish.

No exceptions.

Yes Tent snobery probably does exist, but so what, why do some people seem to get so worked up about it. We don't primarily go camping to make friends with the campers next door, if we do it's a bonus, if not then we're no worst off.

It's simply a matter of numbers. Camping has become very popular, so therefore the more people who go, the more chance you have of meeting the so called "Snobs". Camping is a victim of it's own success.

We have bought an old second hand frame tent which is green and orange.

I'm sure that there are tent snobs that look at it with horror but I love it and there's no problem finding it in a field of blue tents.

we've got mates with both tents and wobble boxes. if anyone comes the hoity toity "would you not prefer a caravanny?" bit with me, i politely give them the "maybe when am older" answer.. cutting, but to the point! (besides, my old Pug would struggle with any more weight than the usual 4 man, kids, mrs, chairs, tables, cooker, sink, dishwasher, gamecube, video, hot tub, conservatory, folding aeroplane etc) please feel free to add to the ever increasing list of camping neccessities...

Can't stand snobs (,or inverted snobs for that matter !).

Though I agree with a few of the postings here, the old adage must surely be: "you can't judge a book by it's cover" (,or a person by their tent !).
