Well I took the plunge and bought a tent recently from a friend selling his old model off cheaply. It was one of those hexagonal types with 3 bedrooms and a central living area. After nearly 1 hour in the garden trying to put it up by myself (wife didnt want to know to avoid any arguements) the said tent is now on ebay!
So then, I have a budget under £100, need a 4 berth tent for simple 1 or 2 nights away in the UK. It MUST be easy for me to put up myself (dont mind asking the wife to hold things but not to try to fit poles into anything.... etc).
What choices do I have?
Many thanks

Any 4 man tent is a doddle to put up on your own. The easiest being the Khyam's with the Rapidex pole system. But will be slightly over your budget of £100.
You need to work out if you want Tunnel, or Dome etc. What height you want. And also if weight and size of the tent packed down is an issue. Some 4mans will have a large porch area, with side and front doors.
So i would decide on what specification you want. The ease of erecting it wont be so much of an issue with just a 4 man tent.
We have the Coleman Lakside 4 which could be erected by one person. It has a bathtub groundsheet and a decent size living area and you can stand up in it.

Hi, I've found the easiest tents to put up are tunnel tents, purely because if you dont have poles crossing to form the dome its simpler to erect. Have a look at the vango oregon or gelert lokon. Threading the poles through the sleeves then bending them up one at a time is a lot more straighforward and places a lot less strain on relationships!!!!!

You will struggle to put up any type of dome tent on your own as almost inevitably there will come a point where you need someone under the dome as you insert the poles into the pin and ring points in the "corners". Best bet will be a tunnel tent of some sort. You will struggle a bit on your budget though This could be the sort of thing you need and it is just inside your budget - notice the lack of headroom though. A careful second hand purchase such as This may be your best bet but as with all ebay purchases the message is "buyer beware"
