Would love a frame tent for all the reasons given, so why have most manufacturers stopped making them and most dealers stopped stocking them?.....

I think that is to do with the competition for increasingly huge manmade fabric tents. ......

This is what I find paradoxical. As the demand for bigger and heavier but more comfortable family tents continues to grow, why isn't that boosting a resurgence of the canvas frame tent market?  How much harder can it be to dry off a canvas tent than a 12 berth nylon behemoth with a sewn in groundsheet?

My interest in this comes from my own irritation with myself for having family camped under nylon for the best part of ten years without ever having considered canvas. Durr!  MT

We've ordered a Sunncamp Grange.  Let's hope it fits into the trailer (with the kitchen sink etc). Will have a trial run in the back garden hopefully before we leave (lets get the arguing done before the holiday !).  Still not sure we've done the right thing - its difficult deciding with only pictures and brouchures to go by, couldn't find a retailer displaying any of the models we were considering. Feel a bit nervous spending all that cash without seeing what we-re buying first - fingers crossed it will be just fine.  Will let you all know once it's arrived and have had a trial run.

So, I hope you are happy with your new tent and that the trial run goes smoothly (just don't pitch for the first time after a long day, when you are both tired!).

Best of luck with it.

Hi Doofers

Congratulations on your purchase!  We would also prefer a canvas tent.  We used one for years but our family grew and the tent needed to grow too.  We don't have a trailer or anywhere to store one so a bigger canvas tent wasn't an option.  We also wanted a SIG so went for a Montana 6.  I have to say we love the Montana but there's something about canvas which the polyester just doesn't have!  If we had a trailer we'd definitely go for something like the Bear Lake which as a ZIG - the best of both worlds for us.  We're hoping to move house this year so a garage is on our wish list. Who knows?  Maybe next year we'll be back to canvas.

Regarding drying out, as far as I know you should pitch your canvas tent to dry it otherwise the fly might shrink.  It sounds like your garden is big enough so this shouldn't be a problem.

Happy camping!
