Help please....bought a Montana 6 and tried putting it up without too much trouble but when we came to put it down again it was impossible to get it into the bag with the poles (as Outwell suggest) and almost as difficult to just get the tent in the bag.

Does anyone have a fool proof method? .....

Hi cmcpne

This is my hubbies method which I've pinched from an old thread -

After you have lowered it and removed all the poles and pegs make sure the doors are open, this will let the air out and make it easier when re-erecting next time.  Have to hand the tie cords to tie the tent up when you have rolled it as explained later on.

Pull the four corners out so that the SIG is tight.  Fold in half lengthways so that the ring pins are all on one side.  Make sure the pins all point out otherwise they may puncture the SIG/tent.

Fold in half again along its length so that the width is now the same as the width of the bag.  Normally I now lie on one end and "rolly-polly" along the tent to squeeze out the air.  Now fold the rear into the middle of the tent then the front to the middle.  Then, fold in half again where these two ends meet.

Squeeze out any air left in again and roll up along the length making sure the pins are still on the outside.  As you roll it up tuck in any loose material to keep a tight bundle.  Lift one end and slide the tie cord under (I told you earlier to have these to hand!)  then tie up, repeat with the other tie.

Bend at the knees (health and safety!) and pick up the tent.  When putting into the bag lay one end of the tent in first tight to the end on the bag and then the weight of the tent should make the rest just fit snuggly.  Make sure the pins are at the top again to prevent puncturing.  Lay in the peg bag and the door mat and it should zip up relatively easily.  Make sure any loose material is tucked in so as not to snag it on the zip

Voila!

Erm, the poles don't go in the tent bag they have a separate one .

Anyway we fold the tent ends into the middle first after tucking the tent walls and porch under the roof (with doors open). Then fold it in half and in half again until the tent is now the width of the tent bag (always have the bag lined up to find the right size). Now fold the two sides of the tent into the middle, then tightly roll the tent into a single bundle (you have to lay on the bundle as you roll it to get the air out). Now use the nylon ribbons to secure the bundle. The next bit is where most people have the most difficulty and that is to put the tent in the bag, DON'T!! Try putting the bag on the tent! Leave the tent bundle on the ground, turn the bag upsidedown and place it over the tent, once the tent is in, flip the bag the right way up, this method works for most large tents including the Montana 6. Now shove the pegs in their bag into the tent bag down one side, then place the welcome mat and porch groundsheet just under the tent bag flap and zip up.

You can now put the poles into their own bag. I hope this helps.

Hi

Just wanted to say that we now prefer not to BUT we have often managed to get the tent and the poles in the same bag.  Kids roll up and down and squeeze the air out as you role and it can be done.  Just to heavy to carry any distance though so we now don't bother.

Glad it's not just me! The instructions do suggest rolling the canvas around the poles, which struck me as someone's idea of a joke given the difficulty I had getting just the canvas into a small enough bundle to put in the bag.
