Hi everyone. We're new to the world of camping and hope to get going with lots of weekends away this summer. Our first problem of course is choosing a tent. There's me and the oh and a 4 and 3 year old. I've read on the forum that tunnel tents are easier to pitch (a big consideration for weekends) and I've been looking at the Vango Oregon 800.
My main problem is that with only side entry and no canopy where do we actually cook and eat? I like to look of the Bear Lake but this is far too expensive. So what do people recommend?
Thanks
H

IT'S HEAVEN AND HELL!!!!!!
You shouldn`t really cook in tents anyway, not unless it`s a canvas one with a proper fire-resistant area. (And even then, be very careful.) Synthetic tents can go up in flames in seconds.
The answer to your question though is to buy a £40 kitchen tent like this. If you set fire to this at least your main tent will be okay, and it has the extra added bonus feature of keeping a vast amount of clutter out of your main tent, leaving you with plenty of room to sit and eat. Also, you won`t damage the waterproofing of your main tent with greasy steam; you won`t add to the condensation problem either and as a final safety consideration, you can ban the small children entirely from the cooking tent, which is about 100% safer than having them underfoot while you cook on a wobbly camp kitchen.
Persuaded? I am. I`ve got a Vango TBS Oregon 600 plus a cooking tent as my weekend unit.

The oregon has 2 entrances, 1 on each side of the tent. Supplied are poles and guys to pitch one of the doors as a canopy as well. Found it to be a great tent. Hope this helps.
