We want a new family tent and have been recommended to buy a vango idaho 500 or vango oregon 600. We looked on the internet and liked coleman cedar creek tent  but have not heard much about it. Basically we want a 5 person tent which is easy to put up, has a durable groundsheet and good headroom in it. Any recommendations?

hi and welcome to ukcs. my advice would be to go and look at these tents in the flesh, what you see in a picture may not be so good when you actually stand in it. good luck

Hi Warnas9. We are brand new to camping, and bought the Cedar Creek late last season, but haven't had chance to try it out yet. We got it from a Millets event, so were able to see it pitched correctly. We have pitched once, in the garden, as a trial run.  It took a good 50 minutes for 2 adults and numerous hysterical spectators before it looked like a tent. (Bear in mind that we are complete novices-I hope we get quicker!)  My OH is over 6' and he preferred this tent from all on display for several reasons: plenty of headroom, large living area, SIG, 3 doors-so lots of options to keep any wind out/let the light in. I researched the internet last year after purchase, but no search would find the tent, until this year, where on several sites, it appears to be "new for 2007".  I was beginning to wonder if we were the only people in the world with this tent!  We are hoping to pitch again this week, and see how all the equipment we've rapidly accumulated fits in, so I'll keep you posted.

Rowena42, Thanks for the tips.- it would be great to hear how you get on trying to pitch the Cedar Creek again - ease of assembly is quite important for us! The Cedar Creek shape/design etc look very practical etc but not sure if I would want to spend much more than half an hour on assembly.

We heard that the vango idaho 500 was really easy to assemble so that had my vote until we come across the The Cedar Creek which looks more practical once assembled. I am also 6ft hence the preference for decent headroom if possible.

There are only three of us - two adults and a child so 5 birth is ideal, especially if 2 seperate sleeping areas available.

Cheers.

Bob, thanks, Vango aspen 700 looks great, but not sure we will need one quite so big. How hard/easy is it to assemble?

Thanks

Hi we use a Gelert Lokon Vario 6 a tunnel Tent, great tent, Tunnel tents have the space and the height, also pleny of windows for Daylight, Several other companies have tunnel shaped tents. For trips where we need to set up quickly we have just got the  Khyam xl classic. Its a really good tent and very quick and easy to erect, can add an annex to the side for even more room

http://www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent_search.asp  also you can click to view the product being erected.

Given your requirements the Idaho may not be ideal as the bedroom is not full height. For ease of pitching you really can't beat a tunnel shape - so the Oregon 600 would be ideal, and you could drop the end bedroom to give yourselves more living space too. Other tunnels worth looking at are the Khyam Ontario and the Coleman Columbus - both have 6 berth, 3 bedroom and full SIG, like the Vango Oregon.

I do agree though that there is no substitute for going and seeing tents in the flesh - something that sounds good and looks ok on line can be quite different for real.

I have just spotted a previous thread started on 8/04/07 by Davethepaint within this forum about the Coleman Cedar Creek.  I don't know how to show you the link, but the last post was 22/04/07, if you can trace it from that.

Well, I can certainly recommend the Aztec Viento 6.  I bought one because I wanted a tent that everyone could stand up and move around in easily in case the weather was bad, and my husband wanted something that was easy to put up.

Tent choice is a very personal thing. I would never advise anybody on what tent they should purchaser as it depends on so many things. Does'nt matter what you start out with you will change it soon anyway - guaranteed.
