Greetings.
We have one. Firstly - YES £154.99 is a good price, retail is £249.99 and although I paid less than this you will be getting a bargin at £154.99.
The Alaska 8 is a great tent, and is flexible in its arrangements. You can put the sleeping sections up at either end, and the second 2 Man can be left out if you dont need it,there are two side doors and one end can be opened as a massive porch/door if so desired.
The Living area is huge, and plenty of light from the four windows.
That said. Its a big tent. Very. It runs out at 26.5 feet long (not including guys) and is about 12 feet wide (again not with guys). Height is 2.2 Meters so even 6ft's will have head clearance. It is relatively straight forward to put up BUT if you a new camper as your nick suggests then a few words of caution.
Because of the size you should make sure you put it up and take it down before you go camping for the first time, and I suggest you pick a windy day to do it, because if you can get it up in those conditions you will be fine when its nice and calm.
Secondly check with the campsite your going to, smaller sites may not want your mobile bungalow taking up the space. (I know the Alaska is smaller than some, but its still a beast)
Make sure you eat your shreddies, the tent when packed is heavy,but it will go back into its carry case incidentally, and without to much effort.
As a rough guide, in windy conditions it will take about 45 mins to pitch (not GALE), in calm you should be able to get it done in about 30 mins. (Practice may get these times down a little)
Its a simple system like dome tents and all colour coded so its straightforward. Make sure you anchor the guys well, a few extra pegs are useful if you need to double peg. Once up, put the ground sheet in, its not full length, it goes up to the front of the sleeping compartment at the back and runs to the end of the tent (under the other sleeping area) and these are attached by straps to the flat head pegs for securing the groundsheet. Make sure you slacken the tensioners off before you put the poles up and then tighten off before pegging. Its up to you, be we find it easier working from the wind direction down, one pole at a time, temporary peg in, next pole. Adjust the poles to tension the skin and get the line right then tentsion and peg, then the guy lines. (In a stiff breeze a third hand is useful to get the top guy in and two bottom rings on the front into the wind - the rest is then easier because your not in so much fear of the tent heading off down the field)

Good tent, good space, flexible sleeping/living arrangements and relatively easy to to put up and take down. And at the price you have found it at, an absolute BARGIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry its been a year...but i will answer the question you asked, yes you do get a space, the amount varies on terrain and how carefully you pitch... heres what works for us.
1.Release tensioners before you put up!!
2.Starting from 1 end insert pole, peg and attach center guyline only to a peg (Temp stabiliser).
3.Work downwards each pole and peg.
4. open end up and put in the 4 bert compartment.
5. using this as a guide lay out groundsheet and peg to inner.
6. unpeg as required and move poles in and along a little.
7. Rezip door.
8. Tighten tensioners one end downwards.
9. Put out main guylines and repeg as required on poles, flaps etc.
10. Sit down and take 5 - then put in other berts as required.
You will find despite this the groundsheet does not fit exactly. Depending on how long you want to take you could probably get spot on, but as few sites are completely flat you will probably never do this 100%.
To be fair in the extreme weather at easter we did the above, and then put out all the storm flaps. Snug and secure, mind we also use storm straps on the main guy rings depending on wind direction etc, so it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry
