If you do a search (using the icon at the top of this page) you will find some detail. I think someone posted to say the Sahara was difficult to pitch?
I bought a Magellan, but decided a dome wasn't for us and it was a bit too dark inside (subjective viewpoint, I recognise). It's a fab price, though.
I'll tell you where there is a bargain, which you might want to consider: the Coleman Columbus 8, at just £149! This should be easier to pitch than both the Magellan and the Sahara, and is a great price. This tent is unusual in that two panels each side can be raised for ventilation (and have mesh options). Not entirely keen on the colour but, hey! for £149, it is a steal!
We had a Coleman Sahara 4/5 which was an excellent tent. It is basically a frame tent with an all in one inner. It was very heavy and, although the 4/5 was easy to put up, I've heard that the Sahara 8 is quite difficult. I've also heard that it's design is not really suitable for heavy winds. The 4/5 was very stable in wind and 100% weatherproof. I think the the Sahara 8 may be a step too far in tent design.
The Sahara range of tents are great .. but only in warm weather. Due to their 'Air flow system' they're pretty difficult to keep warm on cold nights. However, as Fogey said, the are basically a frame tent but not that bad to put up (ours, with guys, used to take 40 mins) and in warm weather really are the bees knees.
Take a look at my gallery for a pic of the 4/5 berth .. the 8 berth is the same but with living accomodation at either end..
The Sahara looks a really good tent for warm weather (thinking France here) StevieE. I've read on here that they take a long time to pitch, and that the 8 berth is not very stable in high winds, any ideas / comments on that?
Hi, My girlfriend and I have the Shara 8 (just for the two of us but then we do like our space!) and its a great tent.
Cant say I've been in serious winds or seriously cold weather but certainly easy to put up - although it is large its no longer to put up than our previous 3 man tent - I guess about 30 mins with a bit of practice. It is a luxury to be able to stand up in the bedroom sections, ideal if crouching for long periods is not your bag!
Hope that helps
Ben

We have Fogey's old Sahara 4/5 and it is a fantastic tent. It is well suited to hot weather but we've not found it too cold in cooler weather.
There have been a number of people who have lost 8's in windy weather. The 4/5 is, as Fogey says, rock solid in the wind. OH looked at pics of the two models the other day and he thinks that on the 4/5 the centre set of poles cross over to form a brace. It appears from the picture of the 8 that the poles are just "hooped" so they only go over the tent and don't cross. I'd imagine that this is the difference in the stability of the tents.
It also explains why we think the 4/5 is very very easy to pitch but those with the 8 complain about it being tricky. The frame of the 4/5 goes together and is freestanding, making it a breeze to put up - I imagine that the frame of the 8 won't stand on it's own because it's just hooped poles making it much harder to put up.
Having read others comments on the 8 I don't think I'd touch one with a bargepole but we love our 4/5!
