It is still raining steadily here, and I just thought I'd post to say this surely is the very best time to go and view tents on display, if you are thinking of buying.

It's much better to see how a tent performs in the rain, and to judge how long you could stand being cooped up inside with all the doors zipped up.

All too often, we go to tent displays when the weather is good, when a tent can feel completely different when it's chucking it down.

as it happens, it was raining last time i went to the tent shop and walking through the tent display i wondered if i was wise to have taken up camping at all! Some of the tents looked really depressing.

I made this point to my other half the other weekend when I wanted to go to a camping display and he was against it on the grounds it was raining! As I pointed out, it rains a lot in the UK - nice to see how a tent is in the rain then!

The answer, in case anyone is interested, was the Vango Vail was the nicest tent on display.

Totally agree with you Liddenham,we bought our tent soley on the way it performed in the rain. When I took hubby to see our potential tent it was chucking it down and he was instantly persuaded about how good it would  be in situ.He was captivated!! It was rather fortunate for me that I had seen the weather forecast before we set off

I had a look at the pair of Vango Tunnels at Hanley Forest Park.  I liked them both.  I thought the Vail roof looks quite flat and could collect water?  It wasn't pitched very well though.  I read on another thread that the vent covers collect water; but they do have loops on them for guys which would prevent that.

The Breckenridge 600 looked good too.

and the ontario.....that was the best value i thought.....best quality looking i thought was the coleman wind thingy, the quality looked exceptional but i didn't like the colour,it looked like an army tent....all round looks, quality, size, lighting i thought the vango vail 700. If i hadn't already bought my outwell i think i would have probably bought the 500 due to the price...

We bought our VV500 in the most horrendous rain - trouble is I think it was the tents fault - I don't think we ever used the blooming thing without getting torrential rain!!

We've stopped using it at the moment and our trips seem to be better

Better to have a tent which is jinxed than be jinxed yourself, PigletandTigger!

That was the one! If I was able to justify the size and cost I would have bought one. i've convinced a friend to buy one though, which is almost as good.
