Sometimes too much choice is a bad thing...

Although I've not seen any in the real world, just on the web, I can't make my mind up between an

Outwell Indiana 8, or a
Sunncamp Family Vario 6 Plus, or a
Gelert Lokon Vario 6

I'm also tempted by the slightly differently styled

Outwell Sun Valley 8

Can anyone help me, or shall I just roll the dice :-)
I was curious why the Gelert was so much cheaper, is its quality not quite so good as the others ?

Please help.

TP

We have the Gelert Lokon Vario 6 and its been fine but after 4 years it is getting worn. I think Outwell are supposed to be better quality but haven't actually tried our new Vermont L yet so don't know.

There is to much to choose from, we love our indi 8 and it has straighter sides than the others which makes the inner space more useable (in my humble opinion), our indi has never leaked, has loads of room, is easy to pitch, very light and reasonable footprint. Also gives extra bedroom, but some great offers on the Gelert at the moment. The indi has a higher HH, but others are good as well,

decisions, descisions- never easy!!!  good luck.

Thanks for the quick replies. Wow, this site must be active !

My gut instinct is pointing me toward the SV8, mainly for the extra storage for everything when it bursts out of the car on our arrival &, boy, can we cram it in.

A quick scan around the net shows a few good prices, can anyone recommend any sellers for both price &/or customer service ?

Thanks all. TP

PS. I'll wait 10 seconds, hit refresh & bet I have a reply :-)

I have the indiana 6. Its been up all weekend in the garden under plenty of rain and wind and its not leaked anywhere.

Have a read about the sunvalley, there is plenty of threads with problems on here.

We are having the same trouble, every time I think we've settled on one there seems to be a thread come up where one has leaked - the Outwells were first choice, but there seem to be loads of leaking problems with them, now I've just seen a thread with the Vango killington leaking, and I've just been looking at the Suncamps, they have loads of models - and not read a thread about them leaking - yet!!!!

We'll be sticking with our cheapy £60 Tesco effort at this rate, and that definately didn't leak in a heavy overnight downpour, but it is a bit small for all 6 of us and the dog - nightmare deciding!

we bought a Gelert Lokon Vario 6 last week and took it for it's maiden outing at the weekend.   DISASTER !!!

First off, there didn't seem enough 'canvas' for the frame, it was very tight across the front and we had trouble zipping the front entrance up due to said tightness.  No amount of adjusting the poles made any difference.

There was a heavy downpour Friday night and we woke to small puddles down the length of the tent under where the velcro fasteners (that hold the inner supporting poles)were stitched in.

Saturday early evening (thank goodness), one of the metal casings that are on the end of each pole section split down the seam, the section of pole jumped out of the casing and went straight through the roof of the tent, oh what fun we had!!!

Took it back and thankfully got a full refund.  Shop were of the opinion that there was a fault on the seam of the metal casing.

We won't be getting another one, that's for sure

We've got an SV8, and although we've had problems and there are lots of threads about them, we still love it.

The problems have been with 2006 tents, I don't know if there's anyone who has a 2007 model that can comment

We got ours from Go Outdoors, and have no complaints about them or their customer service. It's probably best that you try and see some of these tents in the flesh. The SV8 wasn't even on our list until we stepped inside one.

Good luck!

Hi TP,

We've got a 2005 SV8, can't recommend it enough...absolutely superb tent which is ideal for my family of 5.

Yes, 2006 Outwell models (not just SV8) had quality issues. A friend of ours has just had their 2006 SV8 swapped out for a 2007 model due to issues, but we/they haven't tried it yet. We're hoping to help them test pitch it this weekend and then its going to be used in anger at the end of the month.

If you do settle on the SV8, I'd recommend you also buy a set of 1.3M door poles to use when the weather is wet. We did this a couple of weekends ago and it works. We use the 2M poles for dry and sunny/fine weather and the shorter poles when it starts raining. Unless its hacking it down and then the door shuts !

If you'd like any further advice on SV8, just shout.

Cheers,

Pete.
