Hi there,

I've been camping or at least campervanning since I can remember, but since being with my partner and having our son, we have only been camping a handful of times. As my partner's a scout leader we have borrowed equipment (very basic!) including tent as mine was only a 3 man tent and wouldn't fit our sons travel cot in.

So, after the bank holday revived our passion for the outdoors, I started taking advantage of this site and am now calling to fellow campers about where to start and where to find a cheap and chearful tent big enough for the 3 of us (looking at a 6 man just incase of family expansion!!) that's last us one or two seasons until we can afford the tent of our dreams!!

Would also be very greatful if anyone has any advice about electric hook up - I'm confused about what we actually need to get hooked up as there are alsorts of cables that convert the suplply so we can use household apliances!! I'm v confused by hook-up!!

Any help much appreciated!

Hi Carrie,

We see lots of posts asking for tent recommendations.  Problem is, chosing the right tent is a very personal thing.  I would recommend that you hunt out a few local camping shops and have a good look round.  When you think you have found a tent that you like then it would be a good idea to ask what people on UKCS think before actually buying it.

Regarding the EHU - you are right to ask as you don't want to mess with electricity - have a look here first - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=99624&PagePosition=1

Then ask if you still have any questions.

Happy camping.

Ta very much for that brainhertz - is it just me or does camping become  little complicated when you hve kids??

I just used to pack up my tent, bed and cooking equipment and toddle off not caring whether we'd booked a site or not cos we could always sleep in the car!!

No we've to plan, and make sure we have everything!!

Thank you once again and I shall have a look at the thread.

We've seen the Sunncamp Vario 600 plus and the outwell michigan which we like the look of - we like the tunnel tents with the rooms all at one end and ones with a little built in storage!

If you plan your purchase and get it right everything will be a doddle, your already developing a flavour of what you want with the choices you have made, keep surfing the camping shop websites and develop a wish list, then find a store with ready erected tents so you can walk inside them and get a better idea of what you want, go outdoors have a branch in Wakefield, not a million miles away, why not have a Sunday drive and check out some of their displays

A wish list is a good idea too so I shall get cracking on that today to tot up how much everything will be approx. I just hope we can get camping again very soon and have all we need, which really when I properly think about it, isn't that much to start with.
