Hi Jawa.

Personal choice as usual, also do you pillion, how much room for stashing and what bike. I have 2 tents Vango gamma 450 & Khyam Freelander both fit nicely on a deauville (1 at a time obviously), but i go solo. I also take 2 bags, cooker, table, chair, an airbed & a load of other stuff. if it fell over i would definately need a helping hand to pick it up.

I suppose it depends on how much head room you require. I'm suprised at what you can actually get on a bike tbh.

Alan.

We've just bought the Star Camper 3. On a CBR and 2 up.

Going to Assen next month for the moto GP

Works very well only been away for weekends so far. It's heavier than what you are looking at and it's a 3 man but it does mean that you can keep most of your stuff out of the way in the bedroom bit.  It's a very well thoughh out tent and the bag has room for a sleeping bag or two.  Can't fault it so far. Nor can any of our mates.

Ive got a Khyam freelander - its the best investment I ever made. You pay a slight premium for the design concept, but it pays you back time and time again. See my profile for details.

Can you? I am only 5 foot 2 and I can almost stand up in a StarCamper 3...

For what its worth, I used to have a Khyan Freelander and was thanking my lucky stars last weeekend that I was away in a StarCamper 3 instead. The ST3 is a much better tent for wet and/or drafty weather imo ! MT

Really depends on how much you want to load your bike....

I've been using a couple of Coleman tents for family biking, a Manitou 4 and a Manitou 3, they're ideal as they both have an extension for all your biking kit or cooking. I've used them virtually year round, as they're very light, I think they're 7kg & 6kg each in total weight, approx 250mm& 220mm dia, & 500 long packed, they both have very short alloy poles so best of all fit into a pannier or topbox.

I've also been using a quick erect Relum Superdome for over a decade, this is very similar to the old Kyham Megadome, I think this tent has also been copied by Sunncamp recently, the only downside is that its 250mm dia & nearly 1m long packed, but it means you can sleep 4/5 &  can stand up in the sleeping area ! This obviously sits on the rear luggage rack but is really no wider than the bike when panniers are fitted !

At the other extreme, I've also had a Vango Colorado 800 on the rear rack, though this is obviously ideal for a big group, has 2x 4b rooms, a massive 2.8x4m inside lounge area, which is great for poor weather use, but... it weighs a whopping 22kg, & is 680x450x250mm packed !

Have fun !
