Hi there,

My family and I are going to put up our new Bear Lake 6 for the first time tomorrow.  We haven't camped for about 10 years so are total novices....................can anyone offer any advice because the instructions are a bit sketchy??

I have already been on the Outwell website but the instructions on there are also sketchy

Thanks in advance

Very interested in any advice because we've got the 4 berth and have yet to find the tine for a quick camp.

it is very similar to my tent but heavier and better quality....I pin my back corners out first. Put the roof poles all in then put the legs in at the back and ring and pin and peg out. then pull the tent out and do the front....and then finish with the middle. Thatis how I successfully do mine...Make sure the tension straps are loosened first.

hope this helps and ur tent may b slightly different

Outwell's instructions are very poor - something to bear in mind when filling in their questionnaire

I found I had to put my Lake up several times before I was completely happy with the way it pitched.

My handy hints include:

Make sure all of the tension straps are loose at the start.

Make sure that the canvas is equally positioned on each side of the poles.

Starting at the back of the tent, take each pole at a time and space it so that the cotton is wrinkle free but not too tight.

Try to get the poles to follow the seams of the canvas.

Look down the side of each tent and make sure that the poles lie in a straight line.

Don't make the horizontal poles too tight otherwise the end poles will not be vertical.

Don't fully peg down until the ZIG is zipped up - reposition the poles to get the ZIG lying flat.

I also found it helpful to go back to the local camping shop and looking very closely at how they had pitched their display tent.

Hope this helps

If you were to see my 'handy hints' on pitching a caravan you'd be glad you bought a tent

I have the Montana, and once you get used to to pitching it, it is a doddle.

Suggest you just check this out, since quite a few Bear Lakes have been returned because of unacceptable tension on the door zip. I have been unable to do up the door zip on any display Bear Lake I have seen!
