We are a family of 5, 2 adults 2 kids(m11,f8) and a dog. We have been looking at lots of tents but now we don't know what to go for. We like Outwell as a make, they just seem to be more sturdy and the majority have a double lining throughout. We like the Hartford XL, the Nabraska XL and the Montana 6, the only thing putting us off the latter is that it only has 2 bedrooms. Does anyone have any info on either of the tents mentioned that might help us make a decision? Or any other makes that might match what the Outwell has to offer? We want SIG and min 3 rooms,we like the idea of an inner and outer shell. Neither of us have ever been camping before and just can't decide.

Hi, welcome to UKCS and good luck with your tent search! My best advice would be to have a look at some tents 'in the flesh'. You mention Outwell being more sturdy, but there are other tents that are just as sturdy so don't limit yourself. What part of the country are you in? There are some tent displays at various locations, which you could visit.
We have 2 main tents, one for longer (summer) holidays and another for short breaks and less perfect weather. One is 4 bedroom (9 berth) 'up as one' , the other 3 bedroom (5 berth + 2) with inner and flysheet. Both are pretty simple to put up, although the halo (3 bed) is quicker. So you need to think about what you want it for.
The tent would be for short weekend breaks mainly, maybe the odd long weekend with just me the kids and dog.
We are in Doncaster, South Yorkshire area and spent a few hours at Don Valley Outdoor Centre today looking at what they had on display outside, in the rain and inside. Were going to Go Outdoors Tomorrow to see what they have on display.

just bought a norfolk lake outwell and like you i am new to camping its excellent although maybe a bit big just for weekends plenty of room though and on our first weekend in pembroke it p****d down for 24 hrs and no probs
------------- i smile because i have no idea what is going on
We have just bought and first tent, an Outwell Montana 6, not what we were initially looking it but having gone around the 2 Go Outdoors sites near us and back around Don Valley Outdoor Centre, we decided it was probably the better option for us, it was also a bit over our price range but we got ourselves a deal on Ebay. Or hope we have anyway, gotta pick it up Thursday. Can't wait.
Outwell are good but i think the best tent i have seen this and last season are the Vango Aspens. One disadvantage is the large bag which is what is stopping me.
I like lots of headroom with a growing family and found that the Outwell i stayed in had a low porch and the 6ft son kept touching the porch and we had leaks. I am opting for the Vango Oregon 800 2007 model.
good luck with your search
