Just got back from our first camping trip - it was great and we are now hooked (and that's coming from someone who thought she would hate the 'outdoor life'!).

Got all the stuff back into the garage last night and obviously as it is STILL raining here we cant put the tent up to dry it.  My worry is how long can we wait until it starts getting mouldy?!  Just checked the weather for our area and it's set to rain for the next 5 days - all day and night!!

Spread it out in the garage, or stick it up in the garden, either way don't leave it rolled up damp or you'll be needing a new tent!!

Try & spread it out somewhere  (on a dust sheet, ground sheet or tarp )  

I've dried mine off in all manner of places : spare bedroom, kitchen. garage, bathroom, over bannisters, even in the loft.

Helps sometimes, when space is an issue  if you can split it & spread it round the house or ask a friend/neighbour who you know has room

Oh gawd!  Husband just got back from walk with the puppy, both looking like drowned rats and now I've just told him he will need to get the tent back out of the garage!! (at the mo it's in the bag in the garage - we have far too much stuff in the garage to lay it out in there!).  Would it be ok to roughly put it up - i say roughly because our back garden is not big enough to peg in ropes etc - although i've now got visions of waking up tomorrow morning with no tent in the garden, but stuck to 10 ft high hedges!!

Jo, in future if you have to take your tent down in the rain (& its really wet) it's better NOT to put it back in the bag, but to lay it out spread over your gear in the boot, using bin bags or a groundsheet beneath.

Can you think of anyone with some garage space who might let you spread it out there?

If its wet & windy I wouldn't risk putting it up loosely in your garden if you can't guy it securely.

Jo, Don't let a wet tent put you off.  Mould needs a combination of three things to enable it to flourish, damp - still air, and darkness.  It doesn't matter if the tent remains wet so long as you can 'air' it.  Don't leave it lying on the ground for long - keep turning it over - otherwise conditions underneath the tent are ripe for mould.  If you can drape it about in a well ventilated garage with the lights on that'll do until the weather eases and you can pitch it again.

Hi Everybody Just looking at the post here, We have jst come back from a very wet camping weekend,the tent is still drenched through. The problem we have is that the tent is 7mtrs long and 5mtrs wide it wont fit in our garage so we have had to drape it over our washing line A wirly one, Will it be ok as it is still raining? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks all!  Just got back from Tesco and my husband has put the tent up on the lawn and tied just a few of the ropes to the fences - it looks odd but at least it's getting air to it - although it will take over a week to dry if the rain carries on!

Hi Jo Just out of interest can I ask what tent you have? As ours is a vermont and at 7.5 mtrs long and 4mtrs wide the task isnt easy.

Lee, it's a Wynnster Phoenix 4 - dont know the measurements I'm afraid!  it has 2 sleeping pods that sleep 4 (obviously!) and a fairly large living area.  Small rounded canopy.
