Hi all, we have a Vango Diablo 900, which we found too much work to put up for short stay trips, (2-3 days). With this in mind, we decided this year to buy a smaller tent, a Wynnester Venus 5, which some frends of ours had. We were impressed by the living area which suited our needs just fine with 2 kids, (our friends did not have any kids at the time).

I bought the tent 6-8 weeks ago. from Outdoorworld  on the internet. Normaly I would not consider buying a tent over the net, but as we had experienced this example, having been away with our friends, it was not a problem. On delivery we put the tent up in the garden to get a practise run in. With no obvious problems, I put the tent away in the loft and did not use it until this weekend.

As you all aware, not the best weather for camping when Sunday arrived, the forecasted tempest took hold. Our brand new tent started leaking from the top of both side doors where the top of the zips met the seams. Not a flood by any means but a dripping which over a period of a few hours could ruin a kit bag of clothes.

I know that the weather was extreme, but am I asking too much of a £135 tent. Our Vango Diablo has kept us dry in storms of biblical propotions. Has anyone had to return a tent to Outdoor World and how did they go about it?

Would be really grateful for any help and advice. Thanks in anticipation.

Strictly speaking a new tent shouldn't be leaking.

It sounds to me that the seams need a coating of seam sealant ( you may have got some in the tent repair kit if they supplied such ) Its an easy enough job, just apply to the interior leaking seams.

That said, I  would probably contact OW & ask for a replacement. I have bought things off them in the past but never had to return anything. They are a reputable company so hopefully will be helpful.

Thanks. I live in South Bucks but have been to their store in Warrington afew times. I have relations in Warrington, but would imagine that the online service is from a different address and the retail store would not be interested. This is why I hate buying online. I have always preffered to buy face to face. My big fear has alway been to return something bulky 200 miles up the road and this now looks like the time I have to face my fears. Thanks for the help.

Let us know how you get on, we once had a fauty Gelert LV6, from Singers Outdoors. They were very good, sent us out a new one & picked up the faulty one at the same time.

Hope you get the same service !

Now that would be a dream come true. The tent is sodden and the groundsheet filthyat the moment. Really would not want to return them in that state. Just hope that the weather improves so that I can dry the whole lot and clean the groundsheet before the hoped for exchange.

Phoned camperlands about our leaky new Khyam motordome classic (£270) & the guy there (Ian) said they get about 3% returns on tents where the seam taping hasn't stuck properly. They will exchange, but need the tent dry!

Will definitely be testing the replacement before using in anger

If it's only a small leak at where the zips meet the fabric I would be inclined to put on a dab of seam sealant that's supplied in your repair kit and leave to dry, it's probably just a small spot of stitching that missed the sealing tape.
