Something like a van-based Renault Kangoo or Citroen Berlingo would give you good square boot space but you would need a proper dog guard thing to pack it safely up to the roof. MT

We've got a VW Sharan, but have started looking for something a bit more modern and slightly smaller.

Looked at a good few estate cars - finally narrowed our list down to: Ford Mondeo, Skoda Octavia, VW Passat or Audi A6 Avant.

The Skoda was a bit small, Mondeo not bad, Passat ideal & A6 lurvley!

Deposit put on a 4 year old A6 Avant 1.9tdi SE

We have a Berlingo Multispace. With the back seats folded down we have 2800 litres of bootspace. 625 litres with the back seats in use.

I should think the most capacious estate is likely to be one of the big Volvos.

I'm amazed only the last post has mentioned volvos.

When we change from our A4 Avant that we currently have we're straight into a Volvo V70. Seriously comfortable, fast and huge.

we've got a vw touran. the 2 extra seats are folded into the floor most of the time leaving a lovely large boot. We only have 2 children, so when going camping we remove the middle seat completely in the back and pile boxes in the gap!

( still use roof box though)

Of course driver enjoyment and comfort are important but what swings it for me is that the boot capacity of a volvo v70 is 485 litres while the boot capacity of a VW sharan with the third row of seats removed is 852 litres. That is a big difference when you are trying to fit a lot of camping gear in

yep, my dad used to have a sharon and now has a touran. Not really my cup of tea, although I do love driving the touran as it has the DSG gearbox.... very trick :)

We have a Renault Espace.... blooming massive boot....every seat, except for the drivers can come out... and you can have any combo of seats.

Only issue with ours, is that we went for the less economic 2.0 turbo petrol!!! It may not be as economic that it's diesel sisters...but this one has plenty of oomph and is fun and comfortable to drive.

Plenty of room for camping gear and BOOZE, when returning from the continent!!!

Merc E series estate. 700 litres minimum. Anything with under 120,000 miles and 8 yrs old will still be reliable and worth the money. Only prob is RWD which isn't the best for muddy fields!
