hi could anyone give me their opinions on the montana 6 please. am currently using a diablo 600 and although a great tent i find it a bit of a chore to pitch so am thinking of a swap. i saw a couple of montanas recently but was wondering if there are any downsides,? what are they like to pitch time wise. waterproofing. and are they sturdy in the wind etc

We love ours, stood up to all sorts of wind and rain, no pole problems, we pitch ours in about 1 hr and thats with 3 young ones. 2 hrs to get it all right. loads of threads on this one so have a dig through em. Some love monty 6 and some dont. We love it - good luck.
We recently bought a Monty 6 and had our first practice pitch in the garden recently. We pitched all in one and I found it very heavy to raise. We were using the method shown in Outwell's video. I also found it very difficult to get the pins in the rings. I posted here about my problems and got some useful advice, which was to open doors first and to make sure tension straps were loosened before trying to insert the rings. I should think that, if we do as advised, it will be considerably easier. Somebody said that they usually erected the flysheet first, which has the advantage of making it lighter to raise in the first place and easier to get back in the bag afterwards - they pack the inner separately. But it only took us about 45 minutes to erect and I think it is a beautiful tent. Great space, light and airy.I am so looking forward to using it properly although feeling a bit jittery having read of people having problems with leaks. Having said that, I think that the person who commented that the reason we are all aware of Outwell leaks is that they are one of the most popular so that the problems are probably proportionately few. (Hope so anyway) I think that you will find more people who are happy with it than not. Chris

Great tent, great space. Stood up well in some heavy thunderstorms in France last year and kept us all nice and dry throughout as well! If you've checked out the link listed above by Pheonix Lady you'll find lots of views on this tent.
We did exactly what you are considering. Our first tent was a Diablo 900 (2005) which we have probably used only 3 or 4 times. We now have have a Monty6 and have used it far more than the Diablo. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers and the sleeping arrangements in the Monty are not ideal but we still prefer it to the Diablo which is cumbersome.
Have you had a look at the Vango Breckenridge which I think will be a serious contender to the Monty6. Its a new tent for 2007 and it has yet to prove its worth but if it is still around in 12 months time I think it will be the tent for us as it has 3 good double bedrooms rather than the 2 that the Monty6 has.

last year we had a Diablo 900, was OK. Used a Diablo 600 for a week earlier this month, and again OK, but when it rained heavy and we aere all 'peggeg in' it was cramped. Opted for a Montanna 6 and its the business!
We have our Monty 6 fully set up usually in about an hour and twenty mins. That's from unpacking the car to sitting down with a glass of wine.
Loads of opinions on how best to set up - just try a few and use what is best for you and the conditions you are setting up in.
It's a brilliant tent - ours has been really tested with wind and rain (especially this weekend in Bolton Le Sands) and has stood up to everything that Mother Nature has to offer.
We have a 2007 Montana 6 and a great tent it is. Ours has been through all weathers no leaks at all. Loads of space. Once you have found the best way to pitch the tent its a doddle, secret is to get a lot of air in the tent before you try to erect it. Same again for packing but once mastered a great tent
Superb tent, i love mine and it has been well tested.
We keep forgeting to time how long it takesto erect but it is fun and exciting. The tent is so useable and when it comes to packing up it amazes me just how safe and secure you can feel living in something that goes in a bag???

I saw 2 good tips on here for pitching the Monty6. Firstly like the Diablo it is easier if someone goes inside to raise the first set of poles while the other pins. Once the first set of poles is up the others are easier. Secondly someone suggested that if you struggle to insert the pins, use a peg puller to pull the straps which makes it easier to insert the pins.

Flip side - we were gutted to find that our 1st monty leaked - not too badly but having paid so much it was a drip too much. Outriggers in Dunfermline exchanged no problem last Sept. First try up in April was fine but there was no rain. 2nd was at Dollar last weekend and to cut a long story short - it has gone back. Daughter & I slept outside the soaked through the day inner on the floor surrounded by towels and tea towels to stop the rain from reaching us!! Completely gutted as we loved everything about it - could even get all the poles in the tent bag with the tent! BUT could'nt risk getting another and have opted for a Coleman similar design and layout.
Would have loved to say we are happy but would want to be dry to say it. Seems like if you get a watertight one you're laughing cause its a fab tent if its no leaks.
