hi all,new to the site and new to camping...........i have just bought a coleman wyomin 6 berth and some other gear stove,240v converter, chairs, air beds, heater, refridgeration unit etc, etc, etc

i first put my tent up in the back garden took me about an hour as instructions i didn't think were that good...............now knowing virtually nothing about tents apart from the ones you used to camp out in as kids..........this coleman i bought has a seperate ground sheet,is this a good thing or a bad thing? as when im stood in the tent i can see daylight under the bottom of the tent especially where the 2 bedrooms are,i can see a gap of about 3 or 4 inch, yes its well away from the inner bedroom but surely wind and rain can blow underneath.........are most tents simular to this??????????   i would have thought a sewn in ground sheet would be much better or do these have down sides??

be gratefull for any info

cheers john

High john and welcome to UKCS. It Comes down to personal choice with sig's. We have a tent with one and its great but we have a canvas frame tent without and thats great too! Do you have tension straps on your tent that need adjusting? Im sure someone with more knowlege will be along shortly.

Generally when  you put your tent up loosen the straps to allow you to connect the poles to the eyelets or pins. Once you have your tent up, peg out and adjust the straps, this should tension your fly sheet & minimise the gap at around the bottom of the tent. I hope this helps.

Some tents have mudflaps, some have SIGs, some have bathtub or riser groundsheets, but some synthetics are meant to have this gap; it is for ventilation and to reduce condensation.

If you are not too happy about it, you could always try these Wurmi waterstop clips  (This is the Wurmi website), to make your own riser  groundsheet.
