Hi

We are novice campers and have bought a RAGE Tunnel Tent from ebay. It came with written instructions which frankly may as well be in Swahili for all the sense they make without a diagram. Does anyone have a meaningful diagram or set of instructions which an idiot can follow ?!

just put one up and basically the carbon fibre poles fit across the roof sections and the metal poles slot onto them using the angled pieces, start by putting all the carbon fibre poles in place then attach the rear section first- working your way forward- put it up in 45 minutes myself- felt daunting but when up blimey its bloody big for what you have paid. Hope this has been of help Chris

Cheers Chris. We were in the process of trying that approach when the heavens opened and we had to bundle it up an put it away again. When the sun comes out we will now know we were on the right track. There's a whole paragraph out of sequence in the instructions if this is the case, and the number of sleeves doesn't tally with the number of poles when you read it - most odd!

Yes it did look a wopper when we laid it out! Happy camping! Gaynor

Will check it out! The "instructions" seemed to suggest that the fibreglass pole ends should slot into the ring and pins, but they are at the bottom of the tent and the fibreglass poles go in the top don't they? Is that to be ignored - do the pins go into the aluminium poles?

Totally know what you mean about the instructions, they are completely useless. We practiced putting our up today , but done most of it with guess work. I couldn't understand instructions so partner tried and he didnt. Then my 23 year lold son came (who is usually good and following instructions to constuct anything) but he was totally baffled to.  We know we should be able to erect it in half an hour now (BUT no thanks to instuctions) Only problem we have is fixing the guide ropes down, still not figured that out yet so if you have any answers for us we would be grateful. We go away on fri so if we don't work it out before then we will have to resort in embarrassing ourselves by asking someone on the site.

Any answers you might have would be appreciated.

Thx

Jayne

No need to be embarrassed.

Whether it is a one-pole lightweight backpacking tent, a four pole geodesic mountain tent or a strange looking campsite tent, there will always be someone on the site who knows how to put it up, but wouldn't have had a clue at one time.

Ask. If they laugh, give them the evil eye and ask someone else. You will get it right eventually.

Here's a useful set of instrutions for errecting a Vardo 8 or Vardo 10

1, Lay out the Fly Sheet on the ground.

2, Set out your 8 Side poles (These are the thicker of the two)

3, Set out your 4 Fibre glass poles.

4, Push the 4 Fibre glass Poles throught the sleeves on the top of the Fly Sheet.

5, Insert the ends of the fibre glass poles into the Side poles.

6, Now insert the larger poles in the pins attatched to the bottom of the tent.

7. Now pull the Tent up to the upright postion and start pegging it out.

8, I'd use decent pegs though !

9, Have fun!!!

 Hi,

We new to camping and have just purchased a Rage Vardo 8 tunnel tent from ebay. The instruction for erecting the tent are so complicated that we can't make head nor tail of them. Please can some one help us with some useful tips or even better a video of the tent being put up. This would be great as we can then do some camping.

Thanks Ellen.

Hi Ellen

As you can see above we had the same problem with the instructions which were more of a hindrance than a help.

Basically lay the fly sheet out (the main orange and grey cover). The tent has several openings, but if you are using both bedrooms, assume that the smaller opening on the long side of the tent opposite the window is going to be your door and if you can, face that away from the prevailing wind. (wouldn't even worry about trying to figure that out the first time you try it - get it up once and you will know what I mean!). Assemble and insert the black, slim, four piece poles through the orange channels at the top of the tent. There are four of them, not three as the instructions suggest!

Then attach the small L- shaped aluminium (silver) extension pieces one to each side of each of these poles and assemble and attach the long, thicker aluminium poles to the L-pieces. There are then some black clips to clip to the aluminium poles and at the bottom of the tent, in line with the clips are some rings with a pin through. Insert the pins into the end of the poles. They don't fix in and don't worry if the odd one falls out, you can re-insert it later. The poles will bend, but it seems to be the nature of the design. The art is in pulling the structure nice and taught later on.

Next haul up one end of the tent, peg through the loops at the bottom and put a couple of guy ropes on. Go to the other end (the first one that you have just pegged will fall down at this point!) and haul up that end and peg out. This pulls the other end back up and gives you the shape of the tent, then you can do the middle two sections, pulling them nice and taught and adjusting the original pegging if you need to in order to get rid of the wrinkles. Attach the remaining guys, long ones to the top triangle shaped loops and short lengths to the bottom ones. Peg them at roughly 45 degrees.

The inner tents have a row of hooks at the back and a row at the front. Hang the back ones, then crawl in and flatten the compartment out as best you can. Hang the front hooks on and peg all round.

It takes a bit of practice but we managed it in about an hour second time out! Great value tent for the money at the end of the day. Happy camping !!

To be honest, we didn't have any problems putting ours up. I read the instructions out to the other half, and he just ignored me and did his own thing lol. Suffice to say it went up really easily. (sorry don't mean to sound patronising) this is our first ever tent and it was brill! Only paid £60 for it from ebay and couldn't fault it. We went to Kiln Park in Tenby and the weather was lovely in the day time, but a couple of nights it absolutely hammered down. I was expecting reams of water the next morning, but we were bone dry. Others didn't fare so well tho. A chap in the next pitch accross was digging a trench to the road, and numerous ppl in awnings were bailing out with cups and saucepans, so we considered ourselves pretty lucky! Thats the worst it can get on a summer holiday so next yr, fingers crossed it will be even better! Even withstood the wind too!

Hi Gaynor,

Many, many thanks for your instructions for putting up the vardo 8 tent.  Also, thanks for going to the trouble as well.  We haven't tried out your instructions yet, but will do so at the weekend with a trial run in the back garden.  We now feel confident.  Also, we now know what the fly sheet is (it does help...)  Just goes to show what novices we all are (as a family that is).  But, we all have to start somewhere.

Ellen

Your'e very welcome Ellen. We were novices too. It's true what they say, once you've seen how it works it's much easier than you think, and it is SO much bigger than you imagine for the price! If others have found it such a doddle, maybe we are dense! Nevertheless we've had some laughs along the way figuring it out. It's worth the head scratching first time round.

Have Fun!

Gaynor
