Hi,

I am new to this site and I have to say it is a fantastic find!  I would be grateful for some advice regarding which of the many Khyam tents to go for.  We are looking at second hand tents and I know the Espace has loads of headroom (we are a tall family of 5!).  Can someone tell me if there are any other models with good headroom and which to avoid please?  Apparently the Espace has nice big windows too which I quite like the sound of although the headroom is more important.

Thankyou for your help!

Hi BrenGun,

We are a family of 5 and have the Nebraska deluxe. I doubt you would struggle in this...it's cavernous, internal height is over 2m, and it has a huge built in porch that is fantastic. Check out the dimensions here

http://www.khyam.co.uk/product_tent.asp?category=Khyam&type=Family/Group

However,if you are going with Khyam, which I wholeheartedly support, most of the family tents are going to be roomy. The other model we checked out was the Ultimate Classic...might try for one of these next year..

I'm hardly short (5' 6") but I have to jump to touch the ceiling of our Khyam Rigipod. I know they are discontinued now but I saw this week that they are still for sale here:

http://www.sportingsupplies.co.uk/

The bedroom height is pretty good in the pod inners, but for really good height I suggest getting the porch inner at the same time (also available on offer from the above) as these are becoming more difficult to get hold off.

Apart from the height, I also really love the light inside - two good roof-lights, and a huge picture window on one side, plus smaller windows on the other sides if you don't use the extra pods.

Hi BrenGun

My husband is 6ft 3 and has more than enough height in our Rigipod Excelsior. The bedroom pods are spacious and lofty. As previously mentioned by B Chrystie, they are light airy and the versitility of zip in/out pods is great, especially with size restricted camp sites.

Rigipods are discontinued, however they are still widely available along with the many zip in accessories available.

We have the ultimate classic and you could easily sleep 5, its about 6 feet in the living area but obviously less in the bedrooms.  Its a fab tent and easy to erect.

Hi

we have the espace deluxe for the six of us.  you can stand upright everywhere, even in the sleeping pods!  There are a couple of doors, one front and one side, and another at the back if you do not put in a pod.  There is plenty of light  because of the large windows which have netting for flies and a curtain screen.

the living section in the middle is huge, which is why we chose it, incase of rain!

The advertising blurb says you can drive a landrover into it, so however high they are is how high the tent is!

hope this helps!

Wow, thank you for all your answers...and so quick!  I should have said my partner is 6'5" and we want the quick erect type of tent.  Does that make any difference to the above?  I understand the Espace is about 7'3" which sounds fantastic!

regarding times to erect tents you need to read victor kyhams thread "erection time"!  Covers all types of tent erection times including kyham.  Ours is supposed to be quick erect with poles on the outside that click into place, it starts of like a spider with broken legs, then you lock them straight.  Ours takes about 90 minutes to erect, but that is done at a leisurely pace, have never set up in a rush so not sure how long if its raining etc.

We chose the kyham espace for its size, strength and quality.  It hasn't let us down in any area (yet), it cost us just under £600 three years ago.  It sounds like a lot of money, but when there are at least 6 of you using it as your main holiday it has more than paid for itself already.  We have a cheap and cheerful ebay tent for weekends which cost us £35 and sleeps 9, that hasn't let us down either!  But am expecting it to pretty soon, zips looking dodgy, thinning patches etc.

We did a lot of looking in other peoples tents whilst in our old frame tent, which was fun and very useful.  But saw the kyham tents and were sold.

Hope you find everyones advice useful!

Hi Brengun,

I couldn't agree more with the comments ref the rigipod exclesior. Great versatile piece of kit. I have had mine for a couple of years, and used it four times. Really comfortable tent and you never worry about the weather! I have all three bedrooms, the poch inner (which has much taller headroom than the standard bedrooms) and a fitted ground sheet.

I am selling the whole package if you are interested. The package is in A1 condition with no damage at all to any part of the tent. It has never been smoked in and has always been dry stored. I can offer you a demonstration of erecting the tent so you can see its condition and size etc.

Regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your reply. I would be interested in buying your Rigipod.  How much do you want for it?  My email address is Bren at sussexbythesea.demon.co.uk.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Bren
