Hi,

All the poles of the main dome of our tent have started to split, or are showing signs of cracking. There are two big 12.7mm and five 11mm poles. The original sections are all 650mm long. I can buy a replacement kit with sections of 890mm length.

Because I'm replacing entire poles, would it be ok to use the whole length of the new sections, of course making sure that the overall length of the pole remains the same, or would it be better to cut them all down to the original length? This would obviously be a more expensive solution as I would have more section to buy and a lot more time consuming too.

As an aside, does anyone know of a similarly good deal for 12.7mm poles as this one for 11mm poles:

Thanks in advance,

Koen.

I can't see any reason why you can't use the lengths you've found. The only issue might be pack size - if they are too long to fit in the bag.

If you bag seperately anyway, no worries, but if you don't, there is a possibility you'll forget your poles sometime!

Stainless ferrules are the way forward, my old tent had aluminium, which oxidised badly, and meant the poles stuck together.

I think you should be able to find what you are looking for at tent spares.co.uk or outdoorgear.co.uk

I think what you have suggested about using longer pole sections should not be a problem other than storage and transportation

Does anyone know where I can get a longer length of fibreglass pole/tube? I need a piece which is 142cm long and 8mm diameter to replace a piece that was the sunhade/raincover frame for my Brevi backpack for carrying my son. I don't think it would really work as well having joins.
