Hi there

can anyone tell me a bit more about the Bear Lake material?

We bought a Monty 6 and really like it, but have been away this weekend in heavy rain and acquired a fair amount of water inside. We are pretty sure it was condensation rather than leaks, but of course with the sig it ran down the inside walls and collected on the floor. It wasn't a major problem, but it has started us thinking maybe we would rather have the Bear Lake 6.

Now I have never actually seen one and we are struggling to visualise the material. Does it resemble a canvas frame tent in appearance/feel?

How has it been for condensation? Does the fabric breathe or does it still have a seal like the nylon ones?

thanks

James

We've just bought a Bear Lake 4and put it up yesterday. With a massive amount of rain - no leaks !!!

The fabric is treated polyester/cotton. It is much more 'natural' than the synthetic ones and you can feel the difference. On a muggy day it is much more airy and in the heat (like the south of France) it is much more cooler.Yes it is like a frame tent fabric but the coating is more technical and allows the tent to breathe without leaking. Although the instructions say do not touch the tent from ther inside when it is wet we could find no problems if you did so.

Highly recommended.

BTW we agonised over the BL6 or BL4. I'm so glad we chose the 4 - the 6 would have been too big for us.

We bought the BL4 just for the 2 of us - but we anticipate one day our teenage kids might deign to come with us and we would be happy with the space the BL4 provides.
