Hello everyone-We are complete newbies but have been enjoying reading the message boards for a while! We are going to tour through France stopping for one night stops en route to a friend's place. My question is:do we go for 2/3 pop ups or a smallish easy to put up tunnel tent-we're 2 adults and 3 children aged 15.11 and 8 and already have a small 2 person touring tent.Any advice would be great! thanks!!

Think of cost - not of the tents - but of the sites where you stay over - some charge per tent.

Gelert do a nice little range of 3 men tents and pack up quite small so wont take up alot of room - I have a colima 3TD - if you look in my gallery pics its the green tent! This has little porch at the front and back of the tent and it only cost me £59 and comes with porch groundsheets, They also do little dome type tents too.

WELCOME TO UKCS - its addictive!!!

Over 90% of the French campsites charge per pitch, not per tent. So probabably no problem in the number of tents. For camping in the Uk rice may be a factor.

As to popup v. tunnel I would consider the weather element. For one night camping I chose for two small tunnels in the past. Before that we had a small doem for the kids. The tunnels worked far better as they offer a bit of living space in front of the sleeping/inner tent. This is good for putting the bags in but especially too for cooking and eating during a thunder storm or normal rain. They just offered enough room to eat with four persons (two seated with their bums in the inner tent, two other in the larger tunnel area.
I bought them with this element in mind and the first holiday we used them we were glad we did.
