Hi I have just bought a Khyam Ridgi-Pod Classic after years of camping, on reading info etc it says that I have to seam seal untaped seams. Now that in itself is pretty basic but how do I identify what is what? Is it obvious or am I being a complete idiot? Any advice would be appreciated as we would like our new purchase to last for many years to come. PS anyone looking to purchase one of these we had a great deal at sporting supplies in Bloxwhich, Walsall any info required will glad to oblige Thanks Dean
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
We have had a classic for getting on for 3 years now, and we have never sealed any seams, and it has been used in some awful weather, and never let us down. You would be hard pressed to find any seams that aren't taped anyway. I wouldn't worry about it, all the important seams are already sealed when you get it. It is just Khyam covering their backs, so if some water did come in, they could blame you, not the tent!!
We had one and seam sealed all the seams when we got it, the shop advised us to do so and gave us several small bottles of seam sealant. It only took a few minutes and we left it up overnight without the inners in so it could dry. I thought that they did not have taped seams, so needed to be sealed. (but i have been known to be wrong).
if you look at threads on here (search khyam and leaks) you will see there can be a problem with wicking down the bedroom hanger tabs. Once it starts wicking you get very wet, if it doesn't stop raining.
here is one thread which includes links to others on the subject.
We bought a new Rigipod last year and have used it in some very wet weather with no leaks. Having said that, our old Khyam Rigidome did used to have the problem with water wicking through the places where a hanging tab was held through a seam. We just put some seam sealant at the top of the tab and left it to dry.
Would suggest trying your tent first. Once it rains you can spot you can identify any leaks. Wait for it to dry (possibly not this summer!!!) and seal it then.
Personally, I don't think you'll need it.
Enjoy your Rigipod - it's a great tent! I just love the sky lights and the huge window. So bright and light.
Have had a couple of Khyams in the past, one had terrible leaking problems which Khyam replaced, the other we had an occasional drip but seam sealant sorted out any problem spots. Take some seam sealant with you, you will soon notice any leaks if it rains and then you can seal them.
We had similar problems a while back and I asked advice on here ( the threads that sonja has put earlier) and have applied seam sealant as suggested and all seams to be fine now. Can't wait for our holiday now!! Two weeks in Weymouth, I think tent will be throughly tested if weather keeps on like this!!!
