I love the look of the Montana 6 but haven't seen the Sun Valley in the flesh. I have read about a million posts on here about the tents. I think the Sun Valley porch would be really handy for cookers, shoes, tat.... etc that we usually take. I'm veering towards the Sun Valley. Worried about the leaky posts. Can anyone help me decide. I think I am going mad  By the way we have the Diablo 600 at the moment. Love it but would like something that isn't quite so time consuming to put up also like the idea of pitching the flysheet first. Would also like to be able to see out of the tent!!!!  (usually 5 of us camp but have had upto 12 in the diablo)

Thanks J-lo

Hi,

Both great and popular tents. I believe Outwells leaking in 2007 are far rarer than the 2006 models.

Both tents are tunnels, with the Monty being completely SIG and the SV8 being 2/3 SIG vs 1/3 non-SIG porch.

Monty owners will probably advise you to buy the Monty 6 and likewise SV owners will advise you to buy the SV8.

Personally, we've got the SV8 and it ticks all of our boxes. I'm afraid that's what it's going to come down to. Have you seen both in the flesh ?

Yes, our reasons for opting for the SV8 are similar to yours Flysheet (all-in-one) first and a wet area porch. Afraid we don't cook in ours, we bought an Outwell Oaky to do that in. Sorry I have this thing about fire and living tent not going together !

Anyway, if you'd like anymore info on the SV8 then just shout.

Cheers,

Pete.

Another point to mention is that the SV8 has fibreglass poles and the Montana has steel poles.  It depends upon your needs but we opted for the stronger (and heavier!) steel poles of the Montana.

Sorry to say that as much as I love the layout of the Sun Valley, we have given up on it after having 3 tents replaced (all 2006). The final straw was 3 fibreglass poles snapping on its last outing.

We are now looking for another tent and will highly consider steel poles next time - possibly the Indiana. We have an Outhouse for cooking/storage etc

I think I've been one of the unlucky ones. Am struggling to find another tent though that has such a good layout for the money (we only paid £299 for ours last year)

Hi Beautifullily,

You didn't fancy a 2007 SV8 then....our friends got one in exchange for a duff 2006...seemed to be aok on its last outing.

I know what you mean about struggling to find a SV8 replacement. We haven't come across another tent yet which would sway us away from buying another SV8, when our current one reaches end of life.

Cheers,

Pete.

Go Outdoors aren't stocking the 2007 this year, so they only offered us a refund. That means paying the extra for this years model from another supplier - not sure we have enough confidence in the SV8 anymore to pay out the extra, and OH now thinks he wants steel poles.

Off to Wokingham Show next week to see if that throws up any alternatives.

Hi Beautifullily,

Have you already done the deed with Go Outdoors ? Our friends got theirs through them and with a little persuasion and contact with Mark Jennings (Outwell UK Rep) they arranged a replacement with a 2007 model.

His Contact Details are:-

Mark Jennings - mj at oase-outdoors.com

Telephone number (01516 452278), but I don't know if its up to date.

Sorry if this is a little late.

Pete.

Thanks Pete - yes it's too late! We had to really push just for the refund - they wanted us to replace it with something from their current range to start with (which IMHO is pants!)

May be worth going back to Go and seeing what they say though - I'll let OH know.

Thanks again

Sorry for taking over your thread J-Lo

Hi J-lo, we have the monty 6 with the canopy for cooking under and we love it, we have also purchased the carpet and footprint which make the sig warmer in the mornings and evenings. I would definately recommend this tent. This is new for us this year as we used to have the sunncamp vario 600. Hope you find the tent for you.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I went to look at a sun valley 8 today. I loved the layout but was a bit worried as it wasn't very windy and this tent was being blown around quite a bit - I think I would worry about the strength of the poles on an unprotected campsite. I shall probably go for the Monty.  Fingers crossed there will be no leaks!!
