We were in North Devon last week with our brand new Khyam Ontario 8. The weather was pretty wet and windy and the tent suffered FOUR broken poles! The wind was fairly strong but not too horrendous, other campers on the site had probs with their tents (leakage etc) but no-one else's tent was severely damaged like ours. We think there must be a quality/manufacturing defect with the poles as ours was the only tent to be so badly damaged. The tent took about four hours to fix (by replacing pole sections with some spare ones - sawn to size - scavenged from the campsite skip) and get back up. We have a 10 month old (teething) baby and a 3yr old. Believe me, it wasn't a nice experience.
On a previous discussion, Khyam Ontario 8??, Joness Family said their tent had similar probs. Has anyone else also had the same experience with this tent?
I'll be contacting the company we bought it from on Monday morning, any info would be a great help.
Many Thanks

Hmmm, did you pitch it correctly ie into the wind and guy it out properly, cos we bought the kansas which is the same as the ontario and have had no problems. It's seen some serious weather and come through with flying colours.
The tent was only slightly off line with the wind (there wasn't much when we pitched) and all guys were pegged out properly, some with extra strong pegs. We will def make sure we're get direction to wind spot on next time.
Just got back from a long weekend away which started with a broken pole on our Ontario 8, well not exactly the pole, but the ferrule which joins two pole sections.
The worrying thing is that the ferrule split in half. And that was just with flexing the pole to insert the ring and pin system.
What made it worse was that it was absolutely lashing down with rain, so a fast repair was made with duck tape (where would we be without it?).
Have rang the supplier today, and was told that i should have checked the tent within 7 days of receiving (which is all well and good when you have the weather to take the time to check everything out by pitching ).
Needless to say, i will give them the chance to ring me with a solution tomorrow (as they have stated), and if i get no joy, i will be naming and shaming them.
