Hi.

I've been a member on here for a couple of years but this is my 1st post. I normaly use the site for getting info or camp site searches.

Well I'm after some more info  I'm looking for a weekend tent.

Something that will sleep 2 adults and 2 children and can be pitched in 10-15 mins.I've been loking at a Vango Beta 450 or a Khyam sherpa 4.Does anybody know anything about these tents  or have any other reconmendations ?

Thanks.

Hi
The way the weather seems to be changing in the UK.If I were you I would take a Look at the Cabanon Guadeloupe The design come from the Dutch military and is said to be the most wind resistant design of tent you can buy and with cabanons record for quality this must be the best weekender for four people you could buy.the owner that use this forum as said they are quick and easy to erect.Downside they cost
around £350 but will last for 20 years or more used regularly.
Check them out.
All the best.
Rex.

I had a Vango for many years & it was great!!! Would definately recommend that brand. Easy to erect, well made etc.

A friend of mine had a Khyam, they seem very good too. Quick to put up.

I suggest looking around some stores that have the tents up already, so you can get a feel for them.

Also depending on what you want, think about either a SIG or not. I have a fly sheet that goes up first to which you then hook the bedroom pods...but I have seen people rushing around in the pouring rain trying to put up the inner tents with SIG's, then struggling to pull the fly sheet over the top... if the wind is blowing a difficult task in itself but if you are smaller than a bean pole... even more difficult.!!!

Thanks for the reply's.

I was looking to spend a little less than £350 probably nearer £100.

I spent weeks looking for a tent last year and got a Montana 6 (which we think is great) it was a toss up between that and a Vango, both were recommended by our local dealer, but we sometimes think the Montana is a little too big for just 1 or 2 nights.

We used our Montana 6 for the first time for just two nights and will do again, but I know why your looking for something smaller and lighter.

Problem is convincing OH that we need another one, let me know how you did it.

While we were picking our tent at a Yeomans show, I couldn't help keep returning to this one http://www.yeomansoutdoors.co.uk/products.asp?recnumber=67 me being extreamly tight with money. It looked very good for the money and the tent bloke told us they were very popular.

Hi again.
For £100 I would recommend you look for a good second hand tent, check the free adds you will probibly find a good deal there.if not Ebay may have some but you need a
tent that will last and keep you dry in the worst of storms even though it may only be for a couple of days.
and I don't think you will find that new for £100.
Best of luck,
Rex

Both the Beta & Sherpa are low tents. I'm not speaking from personal experience here, but a lot of people on this forum recommend the Vango Venture 500 which they say is quick to erect, but you can stand up in it too.

We've used our Montana 6 several times for 2 night get aways and not really had a problem with it, but it takes up a lot of room in the car (like having to take 1 of the back seats out to fit it in.) and are looking for something that will be up in 10/15 mins.

I've just had a look at the hights of the Beta and Sherpa tents and your right they are quite low,but the Venture 500 fits the bill perfect. Found it for £90 at Taunton Leisure.

Now all I've got to do is convince myself that spending another £90 on camping kit is worth it

I have a Venture 500 (see my gallery) and used it during the previous storm lashings (May 07). It performed really well with only 1 flysheet pegging point breaking - it turned out that it had only become untied. Our neighbours had the Blacks version of the tent and broke 2 poles!

Hi I've got a Vango Oregon 400 for 1 nighters. Sleeps 4, with a dividing curatin, lounge area, headroom throughout and I pitched it the first time in 20mins. Think this is a great tent IMO. I got lasts years model on offer, but I think the '07 model comes with a SIG.

I considered the Vango Venture, but tunnel tents are easier to pitch on your own, than dome tents, so decided on the Oregon.

Again, thanks for all the replies but I've still not made my mind up.

If the weather is ok we will be going away next weekend so will have to make a decision before then.

I saw the Sunncamp evolution at Highbridge caravan shop. It looks fab. I wish I had bought one. (may be I will) instead I had already bought the vango Idaho 600. The evolution looks much better - roomier and more enclosed to keep this flippin rain out. Think it's really quick to put up.
