Dear All,
After years of using our trusty Vango Equinox tunnel tent, we are in the market for a new tent and have sort of settled on either a Kyham Rigidome XL or a Cabanon Biscaya 320 (there’s only two of us and a spaniel, so we don’t need acres of bedroom :) ) – these two seem to be decent quality and have a good sized living area with full headroom. However, the Cabanon is more than double the price of the Khyam….
I realise that Cabanon quality is legendary and in an ideal world (with plenty of money) we’d just go out and buy one, but back in the real world the Kyham is much more affordable for us.
Can anyone offer any opinions of these two tents (or suggest any other decent alternatives)? Especially any Khyam rigidome owners – are they reasonably sturdy? (we always seem to end up camping in gales!) – any problems / issues with them?
With the Cabanon Biscaya’s, (not that we can realistically afford one!) do you have to pitch them to dry them out (this could be a real problem for use as our Garden isn’t big enough) – we are used to just draping bits of wet tent all over the house to dry)?
Any other comments or advice would be really appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt
Most Kyham owners seem to swear by their tents, but the Biscay is the ultimate as I was reminded the bedrooms are big but slope but it will never get you wet no mater how hard it rains and blows and there is a few good deals second hand at the moment if you surf the net for them.
Good luck which ever tent you choose.

These models both offer many things but are entirely different tents.
I really would suggest that you go and have a look at them in the flesh, as then you will surely get a feel for which (if either) is the tent for you.
You wouldn't have to pitch the Biscaya to dry it out, if you were unlucky enough to pack up wet, since it is a breathable polyester (i.e. synthetic) so doesn't have the shrinking-risk of a traditional cotton canvas, which needs to be tensioned whilst drying out.
Best of luck, whatever you decide.

Thanks for the advice :)
I realise that they are quite different - I'm really just trying to get a feel for some 'real world' experiences of owners. I guess that it's almost a given that the Cabanon will be well thought of (I've barely heard a bad word about them), but some views on the Kyham Rigidome would be good.
My Brother in Law had a Rigidome for about 5 years, and he bought it second hand off a guy who owned it for 7 years, so it had a good life. My Brother in Law had to replace quite a few of the knees over the time he had it, and finally got rid a few weeks ago when one of the poles snapped and he didn't want to spend any more money on it.
He was adamant he was going to get another, but was put off by the relative lack of creature comforts such as a built in ground sheet etc. He went for an Outwell in the end.
I was always tempted by the speed of erection, and putting the outer up first, but again, they are a bit basic for my tastes!
