Hi all, we have decided to push the boat out and invest in a footprint for our new Aspen 500. The question is exactly how is it to be used? I have read horror stories of water getting trapped between groundsheets if it is not used properley. Does it acutally peg down with the same pegs that peg down the inner tent? Do I need extra pegs and how do I make sure one is exactly on top of the other? Probably sounds pretty obvious to you experienced users but this is new to me and we are a little concerned and want to get it right. We are going for a weekend away this weekend and more bad weather is predicted so I need to make sure we get it absolutely right. Thanks for your help in advance,
George and Bev
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Hi George & Bev, we have the footprint for our 700 - it came with pegs - just lay it out on the ground where you want your tent to be, then peg it down by itself - we found it wasn't necessary to peg it all the way round just the corners to hold it in place, then pitch your tent on top of it, when you lay your tent out you will be able to line it up fairly accurately then just adjust the position of the tent when it is raised. Once your tent is up just take a look round and make sure none of the edges of the footprint are visible around the perimeter of your tent otherwise you may get water ingress as rain water will run off the sides of the tent and instead of seeping away into the ground will land on the pertruding edges of the footprint, the water can then run under your tent between the 2 layers and get trapped, pressure from above i.e walking around in the tent or weight of furniture can then cause the water to come up through any seams in the sig. you will probably find that some of the footprint edges are visible - we still do with ours on occasions - just make sure you roll or tuck any edges of the footprint back under the tent once you have finished erecting the tent. Hope this helps, have a good weekend and hoping for some good weather for you!.
Cheers Bundys, just knew we could rely on you for some sensible advice. We keep checking the forecast on line and each day it is different. It now says, showers on Friday, decent day Saturday and sowers again on Sunday. A vast improvement on what it said a couple of days ago..
