just pitched my newly purchased tornado 5 tent in the back garden and overnight two elastic loops on the tent unknotted themselves. the tent then came out of the ground and got damaged.
Ive spoken to the company i purchased from and as Ive pitched the tent, they wont refund or exchange.
Would anyone think thats ok or should i push them harder for an exchange
thanks
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Did you knot the elastics yourself? Or did the instructions tell you to check the knots? If not then the following may apply:
If something is not fit for purpose you are entitled to a refund. If the loops were supposed to support the tent and failed then I'd say it shows that they weren't fit for purpose. The damage to the tent was as a result of the failure of the loops therefore surely you should be entitled to a refund? I'm not an expert but I'd follow up your phone call with something in writing stating the above and see where it gets you.
Hello and welcome to UKCS. I think the above advice is spot on; consumer law is clear that good must be fit for purpose, and be able to withstand ordinary wear and tear. The loops clearly have failed and this has resulted in further damage - in fact, if weather conditions were calm when this happened I would also question the quality of a tent that is damaged so easily.
Get back to them and stand your ground; they are just trying it on.
Glad you got a positive response and I forgot to welcome you to the site first time I posted you,so hope this puts that to right as well.A warm welcome to the UKCS and please keep in touch though I am sure you will not be able to resist lol !!!
