Hi there all

We are looking at buying a tent and start camping, we are a family of 4 , 2 adults 2 kids 8 & 4, but looking for a 5-6 berth as we will have kids friends sometimes camping with us too. Would prefer a 'frame ' style tent but see that these are more expemsive and our budget is  a meagre £100, as need to spend £50 on equipment etc. Would prefer a tent with 2 beds next to each other which can be seperated or kept all as one if possible, and also would prefer to be able to stand up and also have a inside living area. Not asking too much for £100 am I !!

Can anyone suggest any suitable tents??? Thanks for any help!!  We are planning our first trip mid august!

Liz

Pop down to Aldi. I saw they had a 6 berth tent for about £60, and one you can stand up in too!

If only they would invent collapsing washing up bowls... OMG, they did!

If your going to make a regular camping trips I suggest investing in some good equipment, it'll make your camping experiences much more fun.

Have fun.

Hi Liz & welcome to the forum

Would you consider a second-hand canvas frame tent? There are quite a few on ebay at the moment, and you can't really go wrong with a frame tent. 6 berth frame tents usually have a 4 berth inner with divider & a separate 2 berth inner. 5 berth frame tents are usually a 3 berth & a 2 berth inner - I'm sure your 8 year old would be okay in the 2 berth inner on his/her own.

With the weather we're having this summer a frame tent would be ideal, as you can cook inside & there's plenty of room for the children to play if it's raining. Also you don't get a condensation problem with canvas like you do with synthetic tents.

The only downside to a canvas frame tent is that it takes up more space in the car than the modern synthetic tents, but much more comfortable to use.

If you search for 'frame tent' on ebay, you should manage to find one for less than £100. Beware of the ebay specials. Go for a used tent by a good manufacturer, eg. Cabanon, Raclet, Trigano, Marechal, Easycamp, Sunncamp, Lichfield etc.

Hi there

I ended up buying a second hand Lichfield Comanche frame tent 4-6, from Ebay but there are no instructions so we are going to be trying to erect it this weekend!

Its around 4 yrs old and we got it for £150, so hopefully it will do us for a few yrs.

Liz
