Just about to buy our first family tent. We have 2 kids (2 and 6) and quite like the look and height of the Vango Aspen. Before we decide, does anyone know:
a) are these tents defined as 'large' in terms of pitch (they are 16.3m2 and 21.5m2 respectively) by campsites?
b) Any problems encountered at all with them?
c) Are they really hard to put up?
Cheers

we have the 700 dlx, never had a problem with pitch sizes but does pay to mention the size when booking, however as most sites allow 7m x 7m, shouldn't be a problem...it's a fab tent, very cosy, stable and roomy, the only downsides I would say are big pack size & weight and it definately needs 2 people (adults!) to erect it. I would also recommend taking a look at the pitching video as per liddenhams suggestion......good choice, you won't be disappointed.
we've had ours a couple of years now and our first run with it took around an hour, following the instructions with the tent...however we now have it down to around 30-40 minutes...for our next outing we are gonna pitch as per the video which looks soo much easier and should shave a few more minutes off the time....basically in the video after laying the tent out you put through the roof poles that go from side to side then attach the legs to these poles, you then peg down to 2 corners at the back, locate the legs on the ring pins and pull/stand the tent up just as you would a tunnel tent, adjust it along the sides and peg down the front, then you insert the roof poles from the back and attach the leg poles front and back, then clip it etc and attach the flysheet....doing it this way means you are not lifting as much weight as you would if you inserted all the roof poles as per the written instructions..
I to have the 700, The first time i erected it was very hard work, but after watching the video it made all the difference, and now two of us can have it up in app 20mins.
as the bundy,s say, its very similar to erecting a tunnel tent.
Thumbs up for the Aspen 700DLX and like you say the height is brilliant. We like the fact that you can stand up in the bedrooms and would still go for it even if it took 2 hours to put up as its that good. Pitching as per the video is a doddle and 20 min to erect is easily achieved.
You will not be disappointed with this tent.

I agree with Batchy boy the inner flies up in 20 mins its the pegging and tying on of the flysheet that is time consuming.Take friends with you like we do, many hands make light work.
I have just pitched the 700 dlx last week, had all weather conditions and survived. Negatives - bag size and the pole bag is heavy and large, the inner tent easy enough but the fly sheet is a struggle to pull over and to line up over the inner tent otherwise no problems. Ground sheet good for getting shape and something to layout and fold up on to, keeping everything clean. The windows in the bedroom inner tents are drafty because the air circulates around between the fly and the inner tents i would recommend some velcro strips to seal more rather than just the toggles when a cosier bedroom is required and you want less drafts but on the positive when hot it is nice to have a bit of air. I prefer the sewn in ground sheet on the inner tent and living area but the porch is bucket style and i am glad this is not for all of the tent as the wind and rain does seem to be more of a problem in the non sewn area of the tent. Overall a good tent with plently of light and door options and nice layout and fits a standard tent pitch comfortably. Also if you are sharing tent i think i would prefer the bedrooms not in a line layout as you do not have so much privacy as some designs with spacing between the bedrooms.

I think the bedrooms side by side is great for parents like me who have little ones on either side.
I currently have a coleman Columbia which is a great tent - but 3 separate sleeping pods. In this tent we either sleep with our pod open or in the main tent area.
Also if your pitch is sloping then having the bedrooms side by side should make it easier to pitch as opposed to having bedroom pods at several angles.
Great points made her and really useful for us. When it's said that the 700 'fits a standard tent pitch comfortably', isn't the length seen by some campsites as defining it as a 2 pitch tent. I read somewhere that the caravan and camping club wont take tents over 5m in any direction, and I'm sure it's longer than this???
