I'm beginning to tear my hair out trying to decide which tent to buy. Nearly settled a few times over last few days on many and varied tents. Need to decide very soon as I have lost sleep over this and it can't go on!
Anyway, latest toss up is between Outwell Nevada XL and Kyham Ontario 8.
Any opinions much appreciated but I'd particularly like to know if any of you have experience with add on canopies for either of these models and if so, which ones.
Also, any one tell me what the light level in a Kyham Ontario is like, indoors on a rainy day plz?
Also still trying to ascertain whether or not Ontario 8 has complete SIG or just in bedroom areas. Seen pic on web showing no groundsheet at all in living area but is supported by text saying it has a SIG. I'm confused.
You sound like me. Couldn't decide which tent I wanted. (Are you a libra too). I know have the Khyam kansas but am still looking at tents which I shouldn't be.
I have recently bought the Khyam kansas 8 from outdoor megastore and yes it does have a sig all the way through. It has fold down bits by the doors which can be left down in the daytime and then you hook them up with a toggle at night or if it's raining.
I think it is quite light in the tent. Personally I would like more of an outlook. But for £199 I think it is a good tent.
I have the canopy to go with this tent. Have only put it up once (as haven't had tent long - only slept in it in the garden so far) It's useful but I would probably prefer to have a tent with everything already attached. Although it wasn't hard to put the canopy up.
I've got the Khyam Ontario 6, and after an extremely wet day on an exposed Cumbrian hillside the inside of the outer tent was bone dry. No problems inside, touch the outer and it feels dry (as opposed to my last tent where any contact with the outer would leave you dripping). The lip on the SIG stopped the flood from getting in. Great tent for very wet weather.
------------- If only they would invent collapsing washing up bowls... OMG, they did!
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
I'm very very tempted now...
To know it holds it's own on a very wet day is very reassuring and that you consider it light enough inside.
Could either of you tell me whether the doors/canopy flaps have 'windows' in them - ie: see through polythene (or whatever)?? Can't rightly see on the pics. I think if the answer to this is yes, then it's very likely to win over the Nevada.
I do like the tiny fixed in 'canopy' over the Nevada door - sure this would be great for rainy days but there again, if it's not a prob to fix up a Kyham canopy then I shouldn't let this bother me. Kansas/Ontario plus canopy would still be cheaper than the Nevada and I could maybe splash out on a carpet and/or footprint groundsheet?? Mmmm so much food for thought.
(No, J-Lo, i'm not an indecisive Libra but a bloody fussy Virgo - wish I wasn't, life might be easier!!)
I hope I make my mind up soon as the house is turning into a pigsty around me and I'm neglecting my 2 year old son somewhat as I sit here for hours reading and racking my brains. Still we'll all get a lovely camping holiday out of it at the end of the day, so everyone's a winner!
No there are no windows in the doors. I would have liked them too. Just a window on each side of the tent next to the doors.
I do love the tent. When I first put it up with just the big bedroom there was so much space the kids were playing football in there. Loads of room to sit around on a rainy day.
I would have bought an Outwell Montana if there hadn't been so many posts about them leaking. I loved all the windows and the homely feel to it. I know lots of people haven't had problems but I just didn't want the hassle.
Good luck and hope you are happy with whatever you decide. Have you done a search on both tents - on here. That's how I came to a decision.
