We too are taking our Galileo XL away for the first time this weekend and so we practised pitching it in the garden. We followed the instructions (such as they are) and didn't find it too difficult. There is a thread already on this site which you could find useful. The link is below.
Hope you find this helpful. Let us know how you get on with your tent as we are very worried about the problems some people are having with the skylight. Not only is this our first outing with the tent but it is our first camping trip full stop! The weather is supposed to be dreadful but at least the XL is big enough for us and our two kids to shelter from the elements! Should at least be a good test of the galileo's wind/waterproof capabilities! Enjoy your trip.
Just back from a great weekend .Two nights at Oban with only a shower during the night so the tent had no real test. Couldn’t believe how easy it went up only me and my two boys (11 and 9). Started at the back and pitched one pole at a time the space inside is unbelievable. Made full use of the mesh so it was like sitting outside without the midges. Only concern was I found the ground sheet a little tight at one of the poles unsure if it is a fault or the way I pitched it. Tried slacking of all the tensioners but it only helped a little. Its like there is not enough room between the top pole and the ground but will wait till its up again and see what its like. Heading to Cornwall this weekend if the weather improves
If you managed to get down to Cornwall, hope it went well. Have just got back from our first weeks camping - in our XL - and had a great time. Despite the heavy rain we had no problems with the tent at all. In fact, it stood up very well to the testing conditions. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we did.

Just been away in our XL for the first time for 4 days, two fine and two very wet. It has amazing space, made much better by buying a carpet, the Outwell 6 one fits perfectly. There are 5 entrances so in hot weather it could be opened out totally yet protected with the mesh screens at night.
My concern was that that one night it leaked in one corner and above one bed, but on inspection I am informed it is just two tiny gaps in the stitching which just needs some seam sealer, provided. Also there is no porch for muddy boots but lots of space for a mat behind the door so no problem.
It is bulky and heavy to carry but very sturdy, cosy and draught and insect free. It has lots of flexibility with the living, it can be totally open or closed or anything inbetween. There are 3 bedrooms but more can be added. The central one can be left out so the big storage area behind becomes part of the tent. It also has a big winbreak that clips to the tent poles. We loved it!
We have the XL too and would'nt buy a big carpet incase something was spilt - weather being as it is you will likely eat and drink in the tent and being as its a large tent you'll probably have little uns who might spill juice etc. Also the way that the door is not protected by a canopy from the elements means that the floor at the door can get a bit wet if its raining. We used an old plastic backed travelling rug at the door we were using to stop the wet going through the whole area and to leave wet crocs on. You could use a few travel rugs at your sitting area if you want. Just my opinion but interesting to see if any more comments come up.
