Looking ahead to our trip to the South of france next year when we will be making 2 stopovers each way. We are a family of 4, kids 11 and 8. Cant decide whether to but 2 pop up tents( outwell jersey or quechua) or go for small easy to erect 4 man tent. We will have the large Cabanon frame tent but are lucky to have a very big boot to enable to us to take a 2nd tent for the stopovers although would rather have small pack size and keep the weight down. Any recommendations? Only need it to sleep in plus maybe small porch area to put a few bags etc

Hello pager33,

How is the Galleria treating you?   Can you not take that? or are you after a touring tent?

We're planning to get a Decathlon pop-up for the two of us but even the bigger ones would be very cramped with four of you.

I wonder if you might need something like the VV500?

Don't know how that would compare packwise with 2 pop-up's. The VV500 isn't too big but it does all mount up!

Might some sites charge you more for 2 pop-up than one tent?

I was camping in Derbyshire last week and, believe it or not, it was torrential wind and rain on Friday night.  The girl in the pitch next to us had cycled from Nottingham and had a Quencha pop up.  The next morning she was warm, dry and popped her tent away as quickly as she pitched it.

Apart from there unweildy stowed away design they appear to be a perfect stoppover tent.

Hear Pager33,

I am looking forward to hearing about the Galleria, I don't know if this helps but Halfords are selling the Gelert Pop up tent for £29.99.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_247669_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varient__categoryId_31512_crumb_63502_parentcategoryrn_31512

from what I saw it had a large mesh window - useful for ventilation and letting heat out.  Also available in a rather masculin pink

Millets had a decent size pop up tent at the NEC earlier this year.  We fitted four of us in with no problem.

The VV500 has a reasonably big pack size - especially if you are only using it for 2 single overnight stops. It is a great tent, but I would probably go for a pop-up for what you are thinking of using it for.

Depends on how big your car is and how much stuff you take!
