We bought a Khyam Indiana 8 last summer which is great and lovely and roomy for our family (2 adults, 3 kids). We are looking for something smaller and quick to pitch for camping trips of 1 or 2 nights. We also have a 3 man pop up quechua but this isn't big enough for all of us. We are wondering whether to get another quechua and use both quechua's together or a Khyam Freelander to use with the quechua or something else all together. I like to have some sort of living area so if we have 2 quechuas I would stil need to get something like a day tent or flysheet. What ever we end up getting it needs to pack down small and be quick to pictch.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Freelander has a bedroom with steeply mitred corners and everytime I have looked at one I have doubted whether you could get 3 in there - it would be just wide enough for a double airbed - so would that give you enough room? If that is okay (can you get 3 in the Quechua 3 man?) then that may be your best bet.
If that is not a good solution then my other thoughts are:
You could get another Quechua and also get the tarp and poles now sold by decathlon (about £15 I think) - that would give you a covered space between the tents. Or you could get a Outdoor revolution Outhouse from the shop on this site (about £39) -I have one ( see pic in my profie) and it accommodates cooker on stand, kitchen stuff (and as my pic - our Zodi shower on its stand!). Either of these is a reasonably priced option, but would not be as quick to put up as the Freelander.
A more expensive option would be to get a Khyam screenhouse (£220) to use as a day tent, and with its inner (which is sold separately at about £60 I think) this could provide sleeping space too.
Thanks for your thoughts. The Quechua 3 man tent is really quite big. We can get 2 adults and 3 kids in there quite comfortably but it is only of any use really just for sleeping, there is no living space at all.
My drawback with the 2 quechuas is that there is no where you can safely put a small child on a rainy day. You would all have to be locked into the sleeping area where as with a Freelander you could at least put a blanket on the living area and put the kids there with some toys.
I'm still thinknig about it and also looking at maybe just a 4 man vis a vis type tent but would really like something quick to put up.
hi...we just bought a kyham classic XL for weekends with space to sleep and about 3mx3m for living in.it cost £250 from jr leisure..is that too expensive?
the kyham tent uses the rapidex pole systemt and took us minutes to put up..but the goundsheet took abit longer to put in but we are still learning - last weekend was our first camping trip so with practice we could get quicker....but at least there is shelter from the start..and it can be put up by one adult leaving the other parent free to get play with the children..it poured with rain and it was great to have an enclosed space for the children to play when they woke up. and when we couldn't go out. our youngest is 3 and seemed happy to play and didn't escape like he usually does!
I have decided on the Freelander, am hoping to go and see one pitched and all being well purchase it this week. We have what I call a proper family tent (Khyam Indiana 8) for our main tent and just need something smaller, quick to pitch and a small pack size for just 1 or 2 night stays. I think the Freelander with our Quechua is going to do the job.
Thanks for all the help.

Karen, can I ask about your Quechua? You said it's a 3-man pop up but you get 2 adults and 3 kids in it - is that right? I was thinking of getting probably 2 of the 2-second ones for stopovers for our main holiday but if one of the 3-man ones would do it... our kids are almost 9 and 6 but not very big! Thanks in advance for the help.
The 3 second Quechua is really roomy. We haven't actually used it yet but have put it up in the garden and all climbed in. We are 2 adults, and 3 kids 11,7 and 2. Although we can all fit in I think by the time you have all the sleeping bags etc in it may seem a little cramped. We were initially going to go for 2 quechuas for quick stop overs but the only thing with them is it is just one room as it were and no where to sit outside of the bedroom pod. There are no windows and so if it is a rainy day and you are stuck inside it will be very dark. You may want to consider getting a tarp to go with it as this can give you some extra space particularly if you use it with a windbreak. You may want to consider a 2 second with a porch as that would give you little bit of shelter on a rainy day. As my youngest is 2 a quechua on it's own or 2 quechuas to give us extra space didn't seem the right solution for us. I have decided to get a Freelander to use with the Quechua. This will give us plenty of bedroom space and a small living area for the kids to play in on a rainy day.
So to sum it up I think you could get away with the a 3 second but may be better off with a 2nd tent or at least some kind of shelter to go with the 3 second tent.
