Hello, We are a family of five, with a baby still in a travel cot, a five and four year old.  We bought an unbranded tent from ebay a few years ago really cheaply and it has withstood some awful weather but the living space was tiny.  With the new baby we need some extra space and I saw a Sunncamp Shadow 800 today.  It looks lovely and spacious and a really good buy.  Is there a downside I should know about?  Is it easy to erect?  Our budget is £200

Hi
We have this tent. We are a family of 4 (and 1 dog) and find it has more than enough room inside, especially if it rains. It did not take too long to put up and it only has 5 poles. We have not found a down side and at only £150 a real bargain.
I'm sure that lots of people will point out that is does not have a SIG but we like the ventilation and didn't want a SIG. With so many good makes out there I'm sure you will get plenty of recommendations but I have to say I am glad we went for the Shadow 800.
Hope you enjoy what ever you go for.

SIG = Sewn In Groundsheet throughout. Usually those without (like the tent you're looing at) have seperate, removable groundsheets in the living areas but sewn-in in the bedrooms. It all depends on personal preference, without means extra ventilation and easier cleaning, plus being able to lift the groundsheet enables the grass to breathe, etc. However, SIG's are fully sewn in, living area and all. Advantages are no bugs, no water seepage and extra warmth but downsides are they can get rather hot without adequate ventilation and are a bit of a sod to keep clean.

If it's a full SIG you're after, the Khyam Kansas 8 is an excellent buy (it's what we've got), it's only £199, fully sewn in plus lots of bedroom options plus optional extras you can buy to add to it. Happy hunting!

Thank you! - for a while I whought that it wasn't sewn in into the bedroms!  brrrr.  The no bugs thing in the living area sounds like a big bonus - the children tend to go a bit crazy if we have to share with too many creatures (and the baby would eat them)...  the search continues.....
