Dear Consumer

As you may already be aware, we recently withdrew our Vango Killington 600 & 900 tents from circulation, to ensure that our commitment to producing the highest quality products was not compromised.

This 2007 model was found to have a production problem that could allow water ingress at the anchor points on the flysheet.

Following this recall, we would now like to update consumers who are eagerly awaiting the re-introduction of the Killington as to what the current situation is.

Initially it was our intention to repair the fault and re-introduce the tents at the end of July 2007. However we have now decided to replace the 2007 model with the 2008 model, which has many new features and benefits.

The 2008 version will be available from December 2007.

For any customers not wishing to wait until December 2007, Vango would recommend the Diablo 600XP or Diablo 900XP as a suitable replacement.

If you have a Killington tent and have not experienced water ingress at the anchor point, then the likelihood is that your tent is not one of the faulty batch.

However, if you have any concerns regarding the performance of your Killington tent, then please do not hesitate to contact your retailer who is authorised to offer a replacement or similar tent of the relevant size.

The Killington 400 and all other Vango models are unaffected. If you require any further clarification, or are unsure of what to do next, please e-mail aftersales at amg-group.co.uk

I don't have that model, but do have a Vango tent. This is brilliant that a manufacturer actually takes part in this forum. It's got to be a good thing to 'interface' with your actual users for both parties.

I am sure it's a great comfort to all owners of that model that this is being investigated and acted upon. But best of all is to be kept informed of the problem and the steps to take.

Thank you for taking the time to post Carys. It makes me proud of the Vango name on my tent.

Graham

I am blown away, now I wish I had a Vango. Hoping that our new Outwell Vermont L doesn't leak. I just wish that Outwell would own up to their problems and correct them.

Thanks Carys

Yep hats off to Vango for good customer service communications. Although I am glad I managed to grab one of the pre-production Killington 900's - The Kirkwood 900 (absolute bargain).

I did e-mail Vango when they issued the recall as there is obviously the concern that the Kirkwood and the Killington are the same tent, however I was assured (in a very swift e-mail reply) that the Kirkwoods didn't suffer from the same production fault as it was later batches that were faulty.

Can recommend the tent though.... love it.

Vango customer service would be wonderful, except we sent our Killington back in May to be repaired and were told it would be 5 weeks.  Took a call today from our dealer to say Vango had now changed their mind and we needed a new tent.  Fortunately our dealer is brilliant and is sorting us out a new tent for our holdiay next week (which probably will not be a Vango!!).

Vango have doen well to acknowledge the problem, but surely it doesn't take this long to work out you can't fix someting.....does it? And to mislead customers?

I guess no-one writing to congratulate Vango has been on the end of one of their shoddily manufactured tents?!!

Went camping in our Vango Kirkwood 600 for the first time last weekend, and it leaked in the places where the killington does. I emailed Vango before we went and asked if the Kirkwood had been recalled as well, they told me this tent was not affected. Well I'd like to tell them that it is!!!

I'am not happy one little bit, I had my 18 month old girl with me on our first family camping trip.

I will be contacting Outdoor Action this week to see what they are going to do.

I will also be contacting Vango just to let them know that the kirkwood is affected and to see what there reply is this time.

I do hope all get a satisfactory outcome. I still think it is encouraging that a manufacturer is willing to put a face to the name.

There are rogues of every brand and more and more they are being manufactured abroad. That keeps costs down for all our benefits, but can leave a manufacturer out of touch with it's products.

I do hope that behind the scenes, the customer service will be top notch as it would be unfortunate if this became just a venting post for everybody with the slightest gripe. That is not to say these posters dont' have serious issues, but I would hate to see this important step being turned against them.

Graham

If they've all been recalled and the new model won't be out till next year why are Taunton leisure advertising them in this month's camping magazine?

Although just been on their website and they don't have any!!  Bet they're a bit annoyed at the waste of money on the advert!  It's a full page spread.
