As a complete newcomer to this game. I wonder if any one can help/has knowledge as to whether a 40 something widow with 2 autistic boys could successfully and quickly cope with puting up a montana 6 by herself? Tent companies have steared me away from dome tents to tunnel tents which are apparently easier and I keep being drawn to the monty 6. I'd really like your views rather than the salesman.

To be honest we have just got a montana 6 and in my opinion it is one of the harder tents i have put up due to the weight of the steel poles (unfortunatley its these poles which make it the sturdiest tent we've had)
Having said that someone on site will always help if they see you struggling. we're a friendly bunch! and its a great way to meet new people.
If you do get one (which i think you should) make sure you open the doorways to get some air into the inside and remember its always harder the first few times.
Hi Denny98,
we have a Montana 6 and it definitely takes 2 of us to get it up and down again. But only because its heavy, its a very simple process and within about 30 mins you can get to a point where the poles are up and its okay for one person to finish off the guying and pegging - weather permitting. So if your boys are up to taking the weight of the poles while you do the work, you should be okay.

Hi denny98 and welcome to UKCS a most addictive website. One of our friends has a Montana 6 he uses on his own but it takes him a long time to put up and is very awkward altough not impossible and is very hard work. Personally I would not want to put ours up single handed.
The steel poles are heavy and you may need somebody inside, holding it up, whilst the poles are located.
We had a Nebraska..granted, a larger tent, but the principles of pitching are the same.
I struggled both holding the tent up and trying to locate the poles onto the pegs, due to the weight. My hubby must have been humouring me!!
I have had Khyam Quick Errect tents before... I'm sure that you would be able to put one of those up, single handed. We had the Classic XL, but maybe the QE Classic XXL may be an option. They don't have a sewn in groundsheet though.
I can't put my montana up by myself as need someone to hold the poles. Can easily put our cabanon aruba up single handed but the canvas and poles are extremely heavy. Used to have a Wynnster Mallard 5 which was a doddle to put up - light fibreglass poles and all parts colour coded. Simple 4 pole design. Think this model is obsolete now but definately the easiest design for erecting.

ok I've taken on board what you have said - still like it, as it needs to be sturdy, but further suggestions on possible tents would be more than welcome
Don't know if you've looked at the Aztec Galeria 6. I put this up with the help of my 5 year old son. It is roughly same dimensions as montana, fibreglass poles so easier to get up.You definitely then lose something in stability, but it held up fine to wind and rain.
I have put a Monty 6 up by meself and here's how...
Peg the 4 corners out loosly, thread the arch bars throught the sleeves and raise the middle legs into postion. Once this is done the middle of the tent is off the floor and the rest of the legs are easier to put up because some of the weight of the tent is taking by the poles in position.
You can eve njust thread through one arch at a time if you wish.
Once done peg and guy the tent out and then put in the side porch pole. Good thing is the innerss are in already!
I agree that it is better to open the doors to let air in as it is rolled tight at the factory and wants to stay like that, nice and snug in it's bag!
Thanks for your support. I think I should stop thinking about it and just do it!! The prices are so good at the moment, and if I put it off to next spring - decisions!...........
I'm really please I found this site it's very useful and everyone is so friendly, I'm sure it's the same on the camp sites (I hope)
