got the above tent, and we're going away for our first trip in it next week. so starting to sort out all the little things that are easily forgotten.

and i remember most people advise using footprints to keep their tents clean.

should i buy a dedicated footprint? or get the sizes of the tent and get a sheet of polythene or something cut to size?

and if so, do i want to cut it slightly smaller to stop rain getting between it and the tent?

if you advise a proper footprint, where would be the best place to get one from? it was hard enough finding a vermont XL left, so would expect millets etc to be out of stock really.

cheers

Hi there - would defo recommend Outwell footprint as then no mucking about cutting to size (and we both have a heck of a big tent!!), you should easily get hold of one from the shop you got your tent from. They normally order enough footprint/carpet to keep with the stock, so you never know your luck!  But try the online retailers too.

Also check if they have the carpet, well worth it to keep condensation down to minimum and comfy/warm on the feet!

If you get totally stuck, then it is best to cut shorter than the sewn in sheet, so it is not sticking out on any side.  That's how the Outwell one is done.

cheers for the advice. will look at price of carpet too, but suspect that may be too expensive. id say we'll probably go away first and make sure we're fine with camping before buying anything else.

btw, we're going to ormskirk next week :-)

Enjoy yourselves!!  You'll love the Vermont XL, everywhere we've been people have come over to look in and admire!

If you ever fancy more local camping - totally recommend Bainland in Woodhall Spa.  Fab site and bags of room on the pitches!

cheers for that jacquie. we actually borrowed a tent and went there to try camping for the weekend. nice enough site, but we left feeling they were a bit greedy really.

they wanted a fair bit of wedge for the kids to play on the tennis courts, swimming was nearly a fiver a go for the 4 of us, when its usually free at sites i thought.

they even wanted £1.60 from us to play on the table tennis for 20 mins!

that was in a hartford XL that we tried. now we've got the vermont we're really looking forward to trying it out.

was just reading on here about some underlay for laminate flooring that some people are preferring as a carpet material.

have you heard of that? or tried it even?

cheers

Hi Davo

Got the outwell carpet as it is cut to size and has all the holes/fiddly bits cut to shape for the inner tent connections....... I guess the carpet underlay would be okay, but it may prove fiddly to cut to shape.  You'll see what I mean when you get the Vermonty (or Albert Hall as we call it) up.

But it would be lovely and comfy underfoot!!!

Good luck at the weekend, you'll have a great time!!!

And probably come back with huge shopping list for accessories that you've seen, I know we did!  Went and bought most of it too!!!
