The family and I have just spent an interesting 2 and a half hours putting up our Wynnster Pegasus 6 for the first time in the garden.  I know it will get faster once we stop putting the wrong poles in the wrong channels.

But hubbie is now concerned having seen the size of it erected, as it were , that it's going to be considered too big for some campsites.  He's booked us into Lakeland at Grange Over Sands for a couple of weeks time, and I believe they are reasonably strict on size, for example.  The Pegasus 6 is about 18 feet long and about 13 feet wide.  Is this going to cause any issues do you think?

And Elegant Mess - I have to say that, even though the tent is immaculate, some of the poles definitely do not look pristine.  I don't think they're used, but they could appear that way, especially at the ends.  I was probably looking out specially because of your post.  Looks like that's how they come.

Don't know about your tent, but we owned a Wynnster Satellite 6 for about 5 years and had 5 years of trouble free camping!!

Good luck.

It's about 5mx5m by the looks of things. I think it's more the dome tents with pods shooting out all directions that cause the pitch problems, I think yours should be fine.

Thanks for that, Gunn and Matshan.  I have to say I do like the tent.  I think other half is getting a little concerned over not very much.  But even I was a little taken aback when we laid the groundsheet out on the lawn to make sure we had enough room to put the tent up, and realised how much area it covers.

Our other tent, which we haven't used for about 4 years, is a Conway Clipper trailer tent, and the Pegasus is definitely bigger than that.  It's so long since we've been camping that we're practically newbies, and haven't seen a field full of tents for years, so we've got nothing to compare it against.

Denbee,

I was looking at it compared with the original 'sealed' poles that I received.  I think I have sorted out a refund now, which is a shame as the tent is fantastic.  I hope that you will enjoy many trips in yours and thanks for remembering my post.  Just to make it clear my gripe is about the service I felt I was receiving, not the tent.

I haven't ruled out entirely trying to purchase it from elsewhere, though my purchases may well be confined to local shops from now on,

Regards,

Elegant Mess

Last year we camped in about 12 different sites in our Pegasus 5 without any problems in regard to size.I don't think there is any significant difference in size between the 6 and 5.In regard to pitching I would advise looking at the posts on this site about the Pegasus as you should be able to erect in 25/40 minutes using this advice

As pre previous posts, dont think you will need to worry about your tent its the large domes with pods that seem to be the problem at some sites.

Ta for that.  I'll pass your reassurances on to dh.

I know that now we've put the tent up for the first time we'll (probably) avoid the mistakes we made this time in the future.  That's why we had the practice run.

I'm sleeping in it tonight - promised littlest daughter (8 year old).  Now we'll find out just how comfy air beds really are.

Hi, we went to Lakeland with our tent that was 22 foot by 13 foot at the time and if you dont have an EHU pitch then you will be fine.  The pitches werent marked out and it became a free for all so get there early on the day for best pitch.  We were in the newer section but you arent allowed your car next to you, you have to park it at the top of the field in the car park.  Overall, though, I wouldnt be worried.

Thanks Claire for the heads-up.  We're not doing EHU.  We almost worked ourselves up to EHU with the trailer tent, but never quite got around to buying a unit.  Mainly because we know what we're like for packing everything but the kitchen sink! With electricity as well we'd be impossible.  We're actually trying to get back to basics this time around.  We've got tent, airbeds, duvets and pillows, picnic table, kitchen unit, bistro burner, pans/kettle, cutlery, crockery and not much else.  Of course, we've not actually packed the car yet.  Give it time!
