Hi,

Right about to buy our first tent but wanted some sort of direction. We think we will go for one of Khyam Ontario 8 or Vango Colorado 800DLX however not sure which one is best, I'm not too sure if the Vango will suit due to its seperate groundsheet but quite like the layout. However, one thought has crossed our minds for the size of these tents will we be charged a double pitching? with having two kids the size would be great but not the extra cost (tight bottom!) SOOO we have looked at the slighter smaller models Ont 6 and Col 600DLX.... Has anyone advice on this as we're having sleepless nights deciding and we're not even camping yet!!

Jeff

Hi Jefflad, we have the Khyam Ontario 6 which has a sewn in Ground Sheet, we got ours from OUtdoor Megastore, They are just down the road from us, and when we went in they had a Khyam Kansas 8, which I believe is the Ontario but with the SIG.  See  http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1428744-10475506?url=http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Khyam_Family_Tents_30.html . Don't know anything about the Colorado, but the khyam's get good feedback on here and as they are only 7.5m long and 3.5m wide they don't class (or haven't as far as I have come across) as need to be double pitched.  If you think about the length of a caravan and car .  Hope this is some help.

Hi Jeff,

We bought last month a khyam yale tunnel tent which is listed as a six man and is just short of 6 metres long.It consists of a bedroom at either end which takes a double or 2 single blow up beds, has hanging curtains which zip to 1" fron the floor with no see-um mesh and also has a sewn in ground sheet which keeps the crawlies and draught out..We got back from our 1st trip on monday which was for 4 days and really loved it even though we have had lots of different tents

It consists of a 4 pole inner and a outer which only took us 45 min from start to finish to put up (not bad 1st time) and even when beds are in etc you got about two metres by four metres living space. It rained badly first day and gave no leaks, and the inner space with outer door shut was plenty and we got 2 kids (5 and 10 too)

good news is that it only uses one space on a site, and it was £150.00 which was cheaper than the khyam 8 we where going to buy.

Have a look on the khyam website and it also has instruction video on how to set it up,you can also look at alternatives too

Dont know where about in england you are but we bought ours from catterick caravan and camping at the same price as khyam as they no longer sell on the net only stockists..

Hope this helps The Soulsbys

Hi Jefflad,

I have the Colorado 800DLX. If you put the tent name into the search engine on this site you will find several threads on the tent. All very positive. The main reason I went for the tent was because I didnt want to sleep right next to the kids but didnt want them right down at the other end of the tent. We put both of ours (6&4) in the same pod then leave the other out for storage. Brilliant space in the middle. The large pod just fits the Coleman queen size blow up bed perfectly.

Good luck and have fun
