We have a large Kyham tent and a Cabanon TT both of which I love.
However, I am unable to pitch either of them on my own, which means I can't get away with the kids unless hubby can come too which isn't very often.
I would love to be able to buy a really easy to pitch tent, so that the kids and I could get away in the holidays for a couple of nights. The tent would need to be big enough for 4 people and not cost the earth (happy to look at second hand tents) My eldest son would be able to help me pitch but neither of us is very tall so we couldn't cope with a huge tent. Ideally it would have room for us to eat in/sit in if it was wet but this may be asking a bit much!!
Can anyone recommend any makes/models for us to look at? We would only be using the tent for short trips (2-3 nights maximum I would think)
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Helen xx

I have just used a poly tent for the first time .. very easy to pitch and perfect for shorter people like me (5ft1).
It is a gelert cadiz 6 .. Its only drawback is that it is inner first but at £89 and being high enough for me to stand in at points and a nice area for putting on shoes etc, i think it was a great buy.

It has a 3000mm hh and plenty of guys too. It was pitched in high winds and didnt budge once up.

Deb, good to hear you like the Gelert Cadiz 6, we just bought it last week as a weekend tent but have yet to try it. I agree with the inner first bit but as its not huge I think it'll be up pretty quickly as not to be an issue (I hope!)
Helen, shame you're not closer to North Wales, I paid just £64.99 for it from the Gelert shop near Porthmadog.
Its a small pack size and best of all weighs only 11kg!

Hi,
I agree with DanceLover that the VV500 is a good choice. If you wanted to spend a bit more and have more living space then I recommend Outwell Oregon 5. I've not put it up on my own but as it's a tunnel tent it's very straight forward, I would say easier than the VV500 (but it is more money).
------------- From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!

I do think tunnels are the easiest to do solo, with a bit of help from your boy. There are lots of middle sized tunnel tents that could suit. Look at Coleman Columbus, Aztec Sala, Wynnster Mallard, Vango Oregon, Outwell Orgeon.....something is bound to suit your needs.

At risk of being predictable, if you're used to canvas already I'd suggest a small canvas tent. Very easy to pitch single-handed and most of the work is done with the tent on its knees so easy for us shorties. With a bit of help to lift the canvas it will be a breeze!
With a canvas tent you can cook inside with no problem and have room to sit.
We bought a second hand four berth Elzas from ebay with sun canopy for £70 and for the easily offended it has no curtains! The Andorra is also four berth and the Antigua is five.

Thanks to everyone who replied with recommendations. Your comments have been very helpful.
Off to Barrons and Catterick Caravans this afternoon to have a look around, and knowing what I'm like, I'm sure I'll end up buying something!!!!
