... I have decided to throw away the old cotton tent and buy a decent syntetic one.

Now Im down to either outwell oregon 5 for easy pitch and maybe good quality or the Athene at a dutch site http://www.obelink.nl/ws/assortiment_overzichtpagina3.asp?cat=1&id=14&arid=3362
,which looks like suncamp vario 5, for space but I'm a little concerned that it can be a pain to find spots to pitch it on crowded campsites...

Can anyone convince me what to choose?

PS Im new in this forum and really like what I have seen. This will definite be my major hangout.
I have been camping in various conditions but mostly backpacking with high quality tent from he swedish manufacturer named Hilleberg. ( I'd say the best hiking tents.)

New! Please upload a photo of your tent to the Tent Showcase!

Hi Bernt & welcome to the forum

If the tent you've already got is a canvas frame tent, then don't throw it out, stick with it.

We bought a large modern synthetic one (Sunncamp Vario 6), but after just one 5 day holiday, we sold it & bought a second-hand canvas frame tent. The frame tent feels much more secure & will withstand most of what the British weather can throw at it. No creaky fibreglass poles, and no flappy synthetic keeping us awake at night. We can cook inside if the weather is bad. No condensation problems either.

If you have the space to transport a frame tent, then stick with it. You won't regret it.

Thanks.

I think you found my weak point, I really like our current tent but the transportation and pitching time is a little bit of a pain.
So Id keep our current tent ( ~30 years old and as new except the peg loops) and go for the outwell for occasions when we are doing more traveling than camping ( pitching every day).
