Hi, we have 2 young boys age 4 and 1, have been looking to buy a tent for our 1st family camping trip and are toying with buying either Vango Diablo 400xp and Outwell Oregan 5. Any advice would be gratefully recieved or which one you recommend. THANKS

Hi there.

I've got the Oregon 5 and just had a look at the Vango Diablo. It depends on your preferences really but I think of the two I would go for the Oregon with young kids because the rooms are next to each other and can be opened up into one. I don't think I'd like the idea of the kids being on the other side of the tent but that's just my preference (I don't have kids yet!). I suspect that the Oregon is also easier to erect, being a tunnel tent. It took us about 30 minutes this weekend and it was our first time and we weren't rushing. The vango looks like it would take longer but I don't know. The porch on the vango is nice, and it does have a sewn in groundsheet which some people prefer. There is better headroom in the Oregon bedrooms. So, overall, there are pros and cons to both from my initial perception. Hope this helps you with your decision and I'm sure some other people will come along with their own views.

I'm not sure I'd be happy with 4 of us in the Oregon, it's a nice roomy tent for me and my dd, but I think another adult and another child may have me feeling a bit cramped. OK for short stays, bit not great for a week or so away.

You'd need to check those bedrooms are wide enough for whatever bed you plan to use - my single mattresses are 80cm wide so you couldn't fit 2 of them in the Diablo's pods. You could fit a double in though, at 137cm.

HTH.

Thanks for the information. We are considering the Vango Diablo would be best. Have decided to sleep with one child each as we thought the same as BEXTERWHO about having kids separate. Anyway, for anyone who has this particular tent, please can you advise if it will fit in a 7x7 pitch? THANKS

I agree 4 would fit in, but I'd just feel so crowded! The living area is good, but I don't think I could cope with sleeping in such close proximity to an extra couple of people. And where would all their stuff go? And the bucket?

Maybe it's me. I like my personal space too much.
