I need a new tent, preferably 3 man, possibly a large 2 man, but with enough room to fit 3 in if needed.

So what companies make very good tents, cost isnt too much of an issue, nothing over £500. Looking for something very waterproof and also a very waterproof groundsheet. Also stable in high winds. And preferably with a porch in which bags can be stored and also some cooking if weather is terrible(just to shelter the stove)

Finally under 4.5kg

Any recomendations?

Ive been looking at: Vango Tornado 300, but cant seem to find any others which are what im looking for

read the post on the cabanon Pyramide. Top tent in my opinion not sure of the cost but these look cool and with a smaller family I would have probably gone for that.

Why that light unicycleboy? Or is the clue in the name

Having very strange visions of a man on a unicycle with a backpack now lol

Shame the Pyramide is so heavy at  27.7kg.I would love one but just can't do the weight. Even my freelander is pushing it at 10.6kg.

We've just bought a vango tornado 300 and it's a cracking tent with bags of room for a mountain tent.

The Golite Hex looks like a cool little overnight tent for two people, comes in at about 2.5 kilos when you add it all up. http://www.hike-lite.co.uk/acatalog/GoLite_Hex.html  MT

Have you looked at the Vaude range? My son has a Vaude Mark 2 ( he really wants a Hilleberg! As if) which meets all your criteria and is well up to the demands placed on it ie 4 season camping on Dartmoor. He uses the 'optional extra' footprint groundsheet with it. The Mark 2 is strong, utterly reliable, easy to pitch outer-first, two porches, fits three large teenagers. http://www.fieldandtrek.com/product-vauDe-Mark-II-Tent-32797.htm

Anyway, Vaude do lots of variations on the theme in terms of size, weight, price, style of erection so maybe there's one that's good for you? http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=1856&a=282492&g=19117&url=http://www.gear-zone.co.uk/eshop/Tents---Vaude.html  MT

I looked at terra nova but none of their tents were what I was looking for, Im looking at the Vaude Mark II but I don't know whether I should try to get hold of a Vaude Mark II light instead. I also had a look at the MSR tent: Mutha Hubba, is this a good tent.

Also in my local area a lot of stores carry coleman tents which appear good, very lightweight and say they are watrproof, but what makes them cost so little, about £100 for a lightweight 3 person tent?

At a pinch I would guess at mass production. The fact that colemans make more tents than Vaudes etc?

I would expect though that Vaudes and the like are specialist and more time spent on quality control per tent than colemans.

Have a look at some of the Jack Wolfskin tents. Solid as a rock & quite spacious for the low weight.

Well i looked at basically all the tents suggested, in the end it was a decision between a Jack Wolfskin Liberty 3 and Vaude Mark 2, in the end I got the vaude, this is because I really liked the way the mark 2 was incredibly easy to put up.
